Please help. Baby hamster!
So I rescued a baby hamster, he's only 4 weeks old. He's super tiny I really need your help HC c! I took him to a vet and they told me he looked just fine for his age, but really couldn't give me any recommendations on how to properly care for him! Just To give him food and water and he will do what comes naturally.
I don't know, does he still need milk? What kind of milk do I give him if so, can he eat hamster food so young? I gave him water and a couple pellets of hamster food, what else to do!!?!
All help is appreciated! Don't be afraid to get detailed!
P.S. I've nicknamed him Little Bear! ^-^

Re: Please help. Baby hamster!
I'm pretty sure they don't have milk - just hamster mix, extra protein (eg scrambled egg, porridge) and the odd bit of veg. If there is anything specific extra I'm not sure but I'm sure one of the breeders will know. I seem to remember most litters eat the same as the Mother hamster mostly. You might need to have a dish of water instead of a bottle - I'd keep it very shallow to avoid the hammy falling in and drowning, and have the dish on top of something firm like a shelf or house roof, to keep the substrate out and keep it from tipping over. A large jar lid might be good, or a saucer?

I think if he's eating solid food he should be okay without milk A good diet and occasional fresh foods along with high quality protein supplementation should be perfectly fine!

Re: Please help. Baby hamster!
He should be fine with the hamster food, but if he's not eating much or he's not managing the food well then you could try porridge, cooked vegetables such as carrot or baby food (check the ingredients first), even just adding a little water to his regular food to soften the biscuit/pellet pieces a little and make them easier to manage with his tiny baby mouth. Extra protein like small pieces of chicken, egg, or mealworms will help him grow too
Good luck with Little Bear, I'm sure he'll grow up to be a very handsome hammie

Re: Please help. Baby hamster!
At 4 weeks he will be just fine and independent. This is they age the would normally be separated from mum anyway though usually in to single sex sibling groups. This has the benefit of letting them grow in a group and keeping each other warm so you need to enxure that as a singleton he is kept nice and warm and with plenty ripped tissue bedding. Feed lots of seed mix and add in small bits of extras like boiled egg, tofu, chicken, babyfood, porridge and small chopped veg (one sort per day) I wouldn't give the wheel for now and save this till at least 12 weeks when he has grown. You don't want him running all his energy off!
