I'm concerned
Earlier today I noticed that Willow seemed to be pouching her litter! I use wood-based cat litter for her litter tray (it dissolves when it gets wet and you just scoop it out) and haven't had any issues with it until now. She was sitting in the litter tray for about 5 minutes and when she came out almost half of it was gone and she had very full pouches! Should I change what I use for the litter?

Re: I'm concerned
I like the paper bedding, they will build nests with it. I've never seen them pouching the bedding except for Chloe will take one piece at a time in her teeth and run to her nest with it in her mouth like that. Most of mine sleep in their houses but it's with comfy Carefresh as their nests. There are other good paper beddings out there as well.

Re: I'm concerned
CB, not sure if you were talking about the litter tray or the substrate lol! She has the wood-based cat litter for the litter and Fitch for the substrate and TP for nesting.

Re: I'm concerned
Ok I was confused. I thought you were using wood based pellets for the substrate. I'd agree with pixiehollow then that the sand might be a good idea. I like the Chinchilla sand if you can get that?

Thought so I might get some Chinchilla Samd on my next VioVet order actually...
PixieHollow, I can only find 2 varieties of sand on Zooplus; do you use the JR Farm one or the unbranded one?

Re: I'm concerned
They will pouch their bedding, often when you aren't looking. Wood pellets shouldn't do any harm anymore than Fitch would but it may not help the litter hold together.

Re: I'm concerned
Wood pellets and Fitch are both biodegradeable so pass through hams' systems fine
For her litter tray I'm going to take Pixiehollow's suggestion and buy some chinchilla sand

Re: I'm concerned
Maybe there was some food stashed in her litter tray. Or maybe the pellets smell tasty lol. Chinchilla sand sounds like the way to go.
