Indeed. You'll have to keep us updated on their progress, and plenty of pictures

There are definitely going to be pictures coming whenever I get the chance.

As far as progress goes, I did get to try wearing a hoodie with Bloom inside it and that seemed to help a bit - I would've preferred both rats instead of just one but that is something I'll have to change within the next taming session. While she didn't appreciate it at first and protested by trying to climb out multiple times, she eventually settled down a bit. Previously if I got near the cage on all but one side while she was anywhere near the cage bars she would often run away which seems to have changed so I'm taking that as a sign that she trusts me more!

My kits still run away sometimes when I approach the cage, that just comes with time and talking and more exposure. They are prey animals and still learning the world. Why its good to get from a breeder as they grow up with house sounds and things but it can be easily learnt. I make sure to let my newbies hear my karaoke early on.. climatise them to that horror lol

Really try hard to do bonding and taming of them together, you will quite often get one kit that is confident and fine and another that is scared and wriggly so I fully know the temptation to just enjoy the more confident one but they will help each other and you may find their personalities change a few times as they develop.

My little rescue guy started stress pooping as soon as I picked him up which was annoying but persistance, calm voice & reptition he is now fine. Still wriggles a bit but no bites and comfortable with my hands. Seeing the kits being picked up lots helped him. He has been with my two older ones but I think he could relate more to the kits as they are nearer his age and same size.

I'll definitely be working with these two together from now on with any future taming sessions. All the learning I've done has been and will remain very useful though, whether with these two or any future rats since I can definitely see myself continuing with rats for a long time.

Finally managing to get some pics together of Bloom, one does have darker lighting though so that might be why she seems more black in one pic. I don't think they're the most recent of pics either to be fair but it might help even a little.

Thanks! There is something very charming about a relatively simple black rat, especially when you start noticing the interesting variation it can have.

I love black rats, sadly they aren't often very popular...or black pets in general for some bizarre reason!

Aww Bloom is a cutie, reminds me of one of my first girls, charity. I think I saw pellets in a bowl. Not the best as you now know. For the mean time, try scattering some of the food about and then with the food bowl altogether and use of as a water bowl instead

I love black rats and red eyed rats. The ones that creep people out and I suppose the ones people don't like. I have a black self. I'll add a photo to show what rusting looks like. She's currently stuck in moult but is slowly getting through it. Also giving extra copper can help
