Re: Mice
Engel I am by no means an expert. I follow erins animals and a mouse and rat lady whose name escapes me. She also has the sweetest ginger and white kitten. Emiology thats it.
Mice love to climb. They love space and need small bar spacing. Mine have been ok over night in a 1cm bar spaced cage. They live in the borneo xl which has narrow bars, same as the barney.
They love to chew. Mine have a fleecy corner hammock which they quite like. They love those grass hides with holes in. They also !ove to burrow and to nest in small houses, preferably all crammed in together (oh the cuteness).
They love tunnels. I have a cork log and a wicker tunnel (very very chewed) and lots of loo roll inners.
Being crepescular they are most lively at dawn and dusk and are really fun to watch.
I give them mini mouse and reggie rat food and add in seeds from a recipe I found on a mouse forum.
They smell. I dont clean too often which can cause them to scent mark more. But mice are incontinent so wee everywhere!!! Still love them though x

Ah ok. How handleable are they? Do they like human interaction?

Re: Mice
I dont handle mine but the rescue I got them from did. They like to explore new things so would prob be curious around humans.
Creek vally critters on youtube has very tame mice but they are bred by her so handled from a very young age.

I've done a bit of reading, not yet seen YouTubers, but from what I have read, they're not for me. Don't get me wrong, they're lovely, it's not that I dislike them, it's just that I don't think they fit me/my situation. Like I love chinchillas and degus, but I wouldn't have either for the same reason. So I'll just follow this thread an look at all the pictures 🤣

Re: Mice
Update. Lovely Erin mouse (brown) is now on her own as the others have gradually passed away.
I need more mice or a home where she can live with other mice. I dont really want to co tinue the mouse keeping cycle as I will be downsizing house wise in the not too distant future.
Any mouse lovers near Petersfield?? Finding it hard to get hold of any mice locally. Havent tried finding a home for her ...

Re: Mice
Are mice actually easier than hamsters?
That's what I was told at the pet store. I was told to take rats or mice, because they're more intelligent and a lot easier than hamsters, but all of them had such creepy longass tails.

Re: Mice
Umm I would say that mice are probably more prone to respiratory infections but other than that, in my limited experience, they seem much the same in terms of easiness.
Mice are smellier than hamster though which makes them less tempting as bedroom pets for me.
Also I dont mind mouse tails. Hamster tails are really cuuute!

Re: Mice
Tried to contact a local rescue but no response after a week. Feel so bad for her being alone.
