Re: My trio
I am so sorry to hear this but with a brain tumor there's nothing anybody can do and you did the right thing by letting him go. Play well at the bridge little Beau.

Thanks Ria. I think the most difficult thing is that he was so well physically. If he had something we could obviously see then I think it would be different in the sense of the mind can make more sense of it

Re: My trio
As if we didn't have enough issues with little Beau Sheep, now we have issues with Pebbles.
Going back a few weeks ago her depth perception is terrible. I know dogs depth perception isn't as good as ours but not this bad.
She had a eye infection starting so we took her to the vets and discussed this with the vet.
She looked into her eyes and said she can't be certain that there isn't something going on with the retina and brought up progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). We may need to be referred to an eye clinic.
With PRA I know there's nothing they can do about it and that it always ends up in blindness. We found out that she has conjunctivitis in both eyes so was on eye drops 3 times a day.
Vet also checked tear production which was very low but she can't say for certain that it is the fact she has dry eye OR if it's because of the infection, she had to take the infection into account. So during the next 2 weeks we've had to lubricate the eye 4 times a day and go back to her after the 2 week mark for her to recheck tear production.
On top of this she has a patch of really dry itchy skin. Despite change of diet, omega oils added to food, piriton, more brushing and moisturizing her coat it's not going away.
Since then, the conjunctivitis cleared up very quickly and we continued with lubricant for a while after as instructed by the vets.
We stopped it on the Thursday and by Friday her eyes were all gunky like before (no infection). We got another appointment as vet wanted to see Pebs in 2 weeks time which was this morning.
Tested for dry eye now there's no infection and Pebbles does indeed have dry eye (KSC) in BOTH eyes. As she's had no trauma to the glands it's highly likely that she has an autoimmune problem. She has got eye drops to stimulate the glands which she'll probably be on for the rest of her life as well as some more eye lubricant to go alongside until the optimmune starts working properly which takes a few weeks.
Pebs has another appointment in a few weeks time to see if the year stimulant is working or of it needs to be changed.

Re: My trio
Oh no Engle you really are going through it with your dogs at the moment. I hope the treatment helps Pebbles.

Yes hopefully. The lubricant helps a lot but you need to apply it up to 6 times a day while the stimulant is twice a day. So I'm currently putting drops in 8 times a day. She's really good though, it's like she knows that it's to help. Well that or the yummy treats I baked for her that she gets afterwards. (Essentially a flapjack made with oats, flaxseed and banana)

Re: My trio
Update
Bella and Pebbles are doing well. We're still unsure about PRA with Pebs but she does have KCS and the vet thinks this is caused by an autoimmune disease attacking the rear ducts. She's been on 2 different types of eye drops to find one that works and now we have she needs to stay on it for the rest of her life. We do think her eyesight is failing though which with her age and other symptoms indicate PRA which sucks.
Bella has got a health check next week. She's 7 next month and is showing potential joint issues like early arthritis. She's also showing signs of canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (canine dementia). She's been seen on and off for a few months regarding strange behaviour but vets have ruled out pretty much everything else. We'd need a brain scan to rule out tumour but she fits the criteria set out for CDS so who knows. Beau had a brain tumour and this is completely different and everyone else we speak to says 'oh she's got dog dementia then?' I didn't know it was a thing until people started saying it so I went to trusty Google and it's scary how much of the criteria she meets. Hopefully we'll know more then.
