Re: My trio
Here's a before and after of Pebs. I have more of when I first got her where you could see the full extent of neglect but they must be on a memory stick that I've put up safe. In fact so safe I can't find it.
Bella's before. Her neck and waist were about the same and I could easily put my hand around it.

I have some kind of jack russell and who even knows what mix(his mother frequently roamed the neighborhood she lived in which definitely had pits, but he is on the small side to have pit in him). He's a very sweet dog on almost any other occasion and would never usually go past a warning nip(with adults at least - never had him so much as nip children as he is excellent with them as long as they're gentle).
That being said a general sweet and gentle dog will switch very quickly when they view you as a threat. I broke one of the most common sense obvious "rules" of sorts, never pick up an injured dog. He has the tendency to get under feet all the time so I once tripped and accidentally stepped on him, which led to my failure to use my brain when rushing him to the vet(still bleeding, not too badly though) only to find out he had a case of swelling and not anything near a broken bone in terms of seriousness! He does still hop a little at times but there is no lasting damage thankfully.

Re: My trio
Poor beau..
Just got back from the vets. It's not sounding good...
On Monday he's going in for x-ray.
Nails are not the issue though some have been trimmed.
His one leg is a lot thicker than the other. He's had no injuries and it's something that's happened quite quick.
They're very concerned about it. Allocated Monday so they can review properly and thoroughly so they don't miss anything. Bloods too.
I'm wracking my brain to think of anything that could cause injury but there's honestly nothing.
Only other thing I can think of that causes bone thickening is cancer... Please tell me that it could be something else!

Re: My trio
Hi Engel, Sorry I have no idea. I know it is hard not to worry/stress about these things but wait until you have all the tests done to see what the vets come up with. Fingers crossed for you and Beau, keep us posted. Hugs.

Re: My trio
Results are back and there's nothing in the bloods. His organs are all good which is good as he's been on steroids for most his life.
Downside is we don't know whats wrong. Vet said to watch it over the week and if anything changes to get in touch. We have an appointment next Thursday so the vet can see if anythings changed (and we haven't noticed). She suspects it may go down, suggesting that it may not be bone. If it doesn't go down then he'll be x-rayed and a sample taken. I assume through needle aspiration? But then there's still no guarantee that we'll know.

Re: My trio
Beau went to the vets today so thought I'd update everyone.
Beau is back to his usual nutty self.
Vet is very pleased with how he is and has confirmed that the lump is going down so could potentially be inflammation. We are to keep an eye on it and get back in touch with her if we notice anything else or anything changes.
We also discussed his weight with her. He has lost a bit of weight since he was last there. She said to aim for 8.5kg and then we'll see where to go from there. He's now 8.8kg. she wants us to pop back regularly to keep an eye on his weight.
All in all everything went well and I'm very relieved.

Re: My trio
Sad Update.
Our beloved bichon Beau has had to cross the rainbow bridge today as a result of a brain tumor. There was nothing we could have done and it was affecting him. It turned him into something unreconizable. He acted and looked different and went very aggressive. He wouldn't harm a fly and this morning he bit me. He's been lunging and growling for a while so clearly something wasn't right...I just wished it was something we could've fixed.
RIP little sheep, run free my friend
