Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I am also glad that the little chick is thriving. I think parrot chicks are cute; I just think parrots are totally awesome and cute no matter what age they are.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
Thank you. I can share a photo taken today as the chick has it's eyes open, although it moved it's head so you can't see it's eyes. It has grows about 3 times the size it was when first hatched.baby fluff is nearly gone and grey can be seen beneath the skin, where feathers will be sprouting. Top of the head and wings.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I am so pleased. All should go ok now. It when they are small problems seem to happen. Or when they nest too early in the year.

Aww, what a joy it is to see the precious chick moving about and thriving so nicely! It brought tears to my eyes to see the little one. It sure is a cutie! I'm so thrilled for you and its amazing parents. They sure did a wonderful job with their little one. Thanks for sharing the chick's first official pic with us. It meant the world.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
The chick is looking big and strong, does he squawk much? He/she is certainly fluffy and when I can see his face I'll be able to decide if he's cute after all lol.
Cute or no I am quite jealous and looking forward to hearing more about your little one.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I can hear the baby begging for food and being fed if I open a window. I made the baby food today (a powder and water rearing food for parrots) and put it into the bowl in their aviary. There was some left over, so I took it into the shed part and fed Joe in entrance hole of the nest box. This way the baby will hopefully be learn from her to be less wary of people. I will also offer the baby some of the food.
Begging for food and fear/aggressive growling are the vocalisations they are born with. They learn more as they grow up.
One of the older babies 4 or 5 years old said bath for the first time a few days ago. They continue learning throughout their lives. i was expecting "shower" to be learned first as Joe prefers a shower/being sprayed with water rather than a bath/bowl of water.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
How sweet! I'm sure that Joe and chick must be excited to get the extra baby food. Congrats to older baby for saying "BATH". I know that must have made you so proud. It is surprising that he said bath instead of shower, though. Maybe this little one has a different preference, lol. My sun conure parrot always preferred showers rather than baths, too. I suppose it was due to getting all that extra one-on-one attention.
