Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I'm glad that Jake is being an exceptionally protective and attentive parent. I'm sure that Jake will soon realize what it already knows; you are no threat to the baby chick. It is probably just a natural instinct to be extra cautious especially as it is nearing the time for the chick to begin venturing out of the nest. Hopefully, the growling will end soon and they will all be feeling at more ease soon enough.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
The chick is 11 weeks old and today I went into the shed and it was out of the nest box and it even went outside. It was nervous and didn’t stay out for long. It doesn’t fly well yet, but it will just be a matter of practice. It looks ljust like the adults apart from the ring around the pupils (dark for up to two years, then it gets lighter). It will be fed by the parents for a while yet.

Aww glad to hear the chick is doing well. I can't believe he/she is 11 weeks old already!
Have you got a name yet?

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I don’t have a name, as the baby may go to another home and you can’t tell if they are male or female, unless you have their dna tested. It is stressful to catch them and take them to a vet for this to be carried out. I may pick a name that could be either male or female, but with this one and the other three looking the same it will be hard to tell them apart.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
Aww, I'm so pleased that the baby chick is doing so well and trying out its wings now. It must be so adorable to watch. Keep trying, Little One, and you will get the hang of it in no time. Happy 11 Weeks and 2 Days Birthday!!!

I couldn't stop smiling at the chick trying out its wings. I can't believe 11 weeks has gone by so fast.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I think the fireworks have put the chick coming out again. But I’m sure it will get more confident.

I may try food bribes left near the indoor/outdoor entrance.

Re: My African grey (Congo) parrots
I'm sure the fireworks are getting louder each year.
How's the food bribes going?
