Naughty little gerbils
I'm the 'lucky' owner of three cheeky little gerbils, Felicia, Mitzi, and Bernadette, who are absolutely adorable and like to give me massive heart attacks.
Last monday, in my ill and in pain state, I managed to somehow leave the lid off the cage whilst I changed their food and water and instead of coming back to a lovely full tank of gerbils, I came back to a half full tank. Felicia (the genuinely naughtiest rodent i've ever met) had climbed out and was nowhere to be seen.
Of course at that point the safe traps went down and the treats and torches came out but to no avail, she had vanished from the surface of the earth.
Fast forward to today when I get home from work and my cousin who'd popped over for the day was sitting there with a massive stupid grin on his face and a lone, naughty gerbil in the travel tank.
I'm so happy and relieved to have her back after almost giving up hope. Gotta be more careful with that pesky lid though.

Re: Naughty little gerbils
I'm so glad you managed to get Felecia back in her cage, you must be off been worried about her. Maybe put a lock or something heavy on the door to prevent any more escapes and you will know the door is shut, as all 3 of my aunts gerbils escape their cage once and this is what she did to prevent any more escapes so she would remember to shut the door.
Can't wait to see pictures of your gerbils.

Re: Naughty little gerbils
I'm just really worried now that they won't be able to live together again. Any tips on how to reintroduce?

Re: Naughty little gerbils
I don't know if you can or not? But it may be best to house them separately from now on as they have been apart for a while, so it might be risky to introduce them back together.
You could try to introduce them together in a neutral environment maybe a tall box (as I know gerbils can jump fairly high) or a secure cage which none of them have been in before but you will need to supervise them to prevent fights but don't force them back together if they don't get along. But I don't know if this would be safe.
But I don't know much about Gerbils, so someone might have better advice.

Re: Naughty little gerbils
I had them together earlier but they started chasing each other and tumbling around. I don't know enough about gerbils to tell if it was fighting but it didn't seem playful. When she first went back in they were all fine, sniffing and grooming each other and then something must have happened to change that.
I've got her in a small gerbilarium at the moment that I've just borrowed from a friend. I just really don't want to have her living alone.

Re: Naughty little gerbils
I think it may be best to house her separately especially if the others where chasing her this may be less stressful for them all.

Re: Naughty little gerbils
Unfortunately I think that will be what happens. I'm going to have to find a new permanent cage for this rascall

Re: Naughty little gerbils
If you provide her plenty of toys, chews and deep substrate to dig I don't think she will mind being on her own.
