Update on the cat - Page 3

Today has been so busy I didn't get a chance to update about the cat ... He is at the vets now. Getting him there wasn't easy but in the end I took him myself. I don't know what they can do for him now to be honest. He will be kept warm and comfortable over night and they will decide in the morning. When I took him in he seemed very sad and not at all like himself. He had these big sad eyes

The owner refused to take him in, so basically the vet now has to make a decision on what, if anything, can be done and if not then the cat will probably be put to sleep. He is suffering and I don't want him to suffer

I won't know at all until Thursday what the vet decides as I will be having my op tomorrow (today by the time most of you see this!) and so won't be able to get my phone. I did have some time with him when I got him there earlier and said goodbye, just in case. He is in good hands but I do feel like this is my fault somehow. It sounds bad, but in some ways I want him to die naturally because I don't want his last memory to be someone putting a needle in him to make him go to sleep, but at the same time I don't want him to suffer anymore. Poor thing

Oh bless him, that's so sad. Putting an animal to sleep when they're beginning to suffer is the last act of kindness we can show to them. There is a saying in the dog world... "better a day too soon than a day too late"... and I very firmly believe in that. Will you be with him when it happens? I'm sure kitty is so grateful for all you've done for him and would appriciate a friendly voice at the end as he falls asleep. Thinking of you, this is a really horrid situation to be in xx

You don't want to be worrying about this when you have your operation to deal with

The cat is in good hands at the vet. I am sure whatever they decide she will be fine and comfortable. Don't worry about her right now, concentrate on getting better from your op.

Hi, been asleep since my op lol
Barley, unfortunately I wouldn't be with him

Although in the end much op was only day surgery, I'm not allowed to go anywhere for 48hrs! I did say goodbye to him though and the vet is a voice he knows so hopefully he will forgive me. I think he'd have been scared by me anyway right now - I look like a pirate! Aaarrrrrgh!

Have just had a call from the vet ...
I am sorry to say the cat was helped to a forever sleep yesterday afternoon. He was really struggling and they felt it best for him

They will arrange for his body to be brought back today so we can bury him in the garden in his favorite spot (I'm not allowed out after my op and the cat's owner, being the only other adult here, has to stay with me for at least 24 hours so he can't go collect the cat's body). I am so sad because I feel like somehow this was my fault ... Whenver I move to my own place I hope to get a cat of my own

So sorry to hear that but because of his age and all his problems it was probably the kindest thing to do - very sad though. It's not your fault - it's natural for us to feel like that when we can't save someone or something, but you took care of him and got him vet treatment and there isn't anything more you could have done. Farewell little cat - you are pain free now.
