Meet Isobel and Dave:

They are brother and sister, and come from the gliding club that my mum is a member of, where there are a couple of semi-feral farm cats that hang around (the gliding club rents land off a farm and some of the farm cats have realised that glider pilots are soft sods who will feed them!) Their mum got pregnant last summer and had them in one of the aircraft hangars (that also doubles up as a workshop). We're pretty sure their parents are also littermates, so they are a tad inbred...
We took them from mum rather early, when they were 5.5 weeks old, and as it turned out we did a good thing, because Isobel had very poorly eyes and had lost the will to do anything other than sit and be miserable, so she probably would have stopped eating and died if we hadn't taken her out of the dusty hangar and to the vets!

They were so tiny when we brought them home, the vet nurse we saw on the first visit said they weren't even sure what sexes they were. (I was pretty confident, having sexed hamsters before, but the vet nurse didn't want to get it wrong and have us complain, I suspect!) We had to keep them in a dog crate for the first few weeks while we weren't at home, as we didn't want them getting hurt around the house.
They're now about nine months old, and right characters
Isobel's favourite thing is to go out exploring, she is a Skilled Hunter and often comes back with her favourite prey -- fir cones... She is varied though, sometimes she will also hunt stones, snail shells and lumps of moss! She is very affectionate and vocal when she wants to be, but it is definitely on her own terms.

Dave is a bit more of a home-boy, he would much rather wail at us to play with him, get into lots of mischief "helping" us do things around the house (earning him a nickname not really suitable for the forum), and get himself so tired that he falls asleep in strange positions! He also loves nibbling feet and biting noses in an affectionate manner, something that mum's boyfriend encouraged him to do

They are gorgeous and lovely and the best things ever and I wouldn't want to be without them for the world!
