Have even more good news!
My boyfriends dad made a fence around all the hutches so now the pain in the ass dog can't jump up at the cages and frighten my poor piggies! It also means he can't take the bottles off the side of the cage and chew them to pieces! Very happy that they are all enclosed and all the hutches are all together down one end of the garden.

Will try and get photos of them all out in the run together soon

I have some very upsetting news regarding Lilly. She passed away on Wednesday and it was very sudden. I am absolutely heartbroken, it was a very tough time for me but now I feel I can share what happened. Here is the story...

Wednesday morning I went out to see and feed the animals and all was normal, eating and behaving normally. We went out for the day and when we came back in the afternoon, I went to give them all their dinner. Thats when I knew something wasn't right. Rather than coming up to the bowl and making a load of noise, Lilly just stayed in the corner of the cage. I took a closer look at her and I saw she had her mouth open and her breathing was very laboured... It soon became very clear that she couldn't breathe. She was literally gasping for breath. She threw her head up whenever she took a breath and it was really distressing to see.

I ran inside and immediately alerted my boyfriend telling him to get the pet carrier ready while I rang the vets. This was a vets i've never been to before and I had no idea if they would take her in as it was quite late and I wasn't sure if they'd have any appointments. Luckily they were an emergency clinic and on top of that, they specialised in small mammals and exotics. They told me to leave straight away as it was an emergency situation.

It was a very stressful drive to the clinic. Lilly just laid down in the towel and you could tell she was really struggling. As soon as we got there, two nurses came out and quickly assessed her right there. They took her round the back and put her on oxygen right away, my appointment wasn't for another 20 minutes so I was immediately panicked. A short while later the vet called us into the consult room. She told us that her breathing was incredibly bad and she said that her throwing her head up, was her literally gasping for air, she couldn't breathe.

While the vet was explaining what was happening to us, the nurses were assessing her while under oxygen. They couldn't find a hearbeat... She passed away right there... They even tried CPR to bring her back but she was gone... It was devestating. She was completely fine that morning. The vet was very kind and tried her best to comfort me. Unlike my old vet, she really explained what was happening and although I sort of knew what was going to happen, it broke me. It was horrible. To see her so happy and healthy looking in the morning, only to get back home and see her struggling for breath... Breaks my heart.

We took her home to bury her. The guinea pig cage was on the other end of the garden, and oh god its like they knew what was happening. Patch, Cinnamon, Treacle and Maple all came up to the side of the cage (even though no one was near the cage or anything) and they all just started squeaking. It went on for a while. Its like they knew... Its like they were giving her a good send off. It broke my heart!

All I can say is that I am happy she isn't suffering anymore, but I wish we could have saved her. The vets we went to was the best vets i've ever been to and although they couldn't save Lilly, they tried ever so hard to and I am very thankful that they took the time to do that. I will definitely be going back to that vets with my other animals, you can tell they really did care.

Rest in Peace my beautiful noisy chunky squeaky piggie. I will never forget you, you gorgeous girly XX

I will put up some photos in a day or so (not on right computer right now)

I am so very very sorry about your news. So soon after the big move and everyone settling down so well. I went back to page one here where you introduced us to your lovely piggies and Lilly was a very beautiful girl indeed.
The whole incident sounds distressing but finding a good vet who did all they could was a blessing.
Rest In Peace lovely Lilly and a *hug* for you.

So sad to read this hr about Lily. Such a beautiful girl, sending you big hugs and that I'm thinking of you at this sad time. The vet did a good job keeping you informed of everything they were doing and that they showed such care to your squeaky Piggie. She's now at peace and will be forever remembered, my heart ached at the other piggies squeaking, they will have sensed something wrong.
