Surprise !!!!

So today, Tuesday January 26th of 2016, Ryan and I go to Petsmart to get hamster bedding for Cujo and Tiggs, and Ryan surprised me by buying a chinchilla!!!! *squeal* We had been talking about getting a chinchilla for some time now, and feel chinchillas would be a great addition to the furry family.
We've thought it over, we are in a good financial spot, and he decided to buy the chinchilla and I spazzed *OUT* I was so excited. We were looking at him and Ryan went over to the cages, and I turned to him and said, can we? And he said no. But then he stood there for a while and I went to get the bedding, got back and said,"Are you ready to go?" and he said,"Babe, there's a nice big cage on clearance, we have the space, you have the time (I got laid off at Ebay as a call center agent), I want you to tame him. I think he'd be good for you." Aaand he is waiting at Petsmart!!!

My friend Chris is picking us up at 8:30 and we are going to go pick him up at 9 and bring him home! Ryan and I were on the motorcycle so we couldn't take him home but the store said they could hold onto him so we can get a ride.

I plan on getting *very* attached to this Chinchilla. He's going to be trained, and be a support animal for me. This Chinchilla and I already have a bond/ vibe the second his cage was opened. He approached me and came into my hands and let me hold him so I plan on this going very well. MANY pics and videos to come once we get him settled in. Ryan has picked the name Shadow for him which is very fitting for him.

UPDATE: I am moving. Around March 15th Ryan and I are moving to Maryland. I am going to continue college in the evening, and Ryan is going to be working as a Security Officer with a family friend. He already works as a Security Officer down here in Florida and a family friend has presented him with an opportunity to advance. He is going to go to the same college as me and he is studying to become a police officer. The Sheriff's training Barracks are located on campus so that is GREAT! There is a somewhat negative part to this move. Both of my parents have been diagnosed with cancer. I'm not going to go into it here, I don't want to get too personal but if you want to know more PM me and I'll explain. In short, I need to help out at home. We will be moving in with my parents who have two spare rooms. My room plus a spare plus storage. Also, I may be putting my cat Calipso down after the move. Nothing set in stone yet, shes just very old 18+ and starting to have a lot of trouble. She's going through a lot, I'll create a thread for her later.

Congratulations, he's adorable! I had a chinchilla when I was younger. His name was "Mr. Wendy" because the vet said my little lady was actually a boy, haha ☺️

I'm so sorry to hear of the troubles you are having, and will keep your family in my thoughts.

Chinchilla's are lovely. I had a rescue one that only had 1 ear. He was so cuddly. Watch out for cables, they love to chew them. Mine reached through the bars of his cage and pulled a power cable through and chewed it. He wasn't hurt luckily.

He's an absolute doll. He already knows 'Come' when I open the door and call for him using clicks. Ryan and I don't know if we will be sticking with Shadow. Any thoughts as to another name? Feel free to leave any and all suggestions. All will be tried out and the best one may be chosen. ^-^ He's quick and REDICULOUSLY soft! Like oh my goodness he's like part of a cloud!

Name wise I'm thinking something different like Spark or Slade. I'm thinking an S name. Non S names are fine too. Open to all

Storm, Eyore, Sebastian, Spark, Slade, and Shadow are the current name suggestions. Any others? Gonna give about 2 or 3 weeks at least until we get to know him and his quirks and behaviors and get as many name suggestions as we can. Please help name him!
