Default New Rabbit :)

Thought i'd share on here that i got a new rabbit (as i know some members on here also like rabbits) on the 23rd of this month. He's a beautiful red eyed white rabbit with greyish ears & my family rescued him back in April but he's been living with my sister till recently as i'd noticed a decline in his care at hers. Now he's here & has lots more toys and always has access to hay & food (my sister actually ran out of hay & food & didn't care which is the main reason i fought for him). He currently lives in an indoor 120cm cage but gets to go in a big run for most of the day. The plan is to get him neutered in Jan/Feb & try pair him with my female rabbit upstairs where they'll live in a big DIY cage in my bedroom & hopefully free roam my room when I'm in college. Atm he doesn't seem too be eating too much, i'm not sure if that's because he thinks he wont be fed for days so he's trying to make his food last or if there's something else going on. I'm going.to monitor it & change his food if need be & if that doesn't help it'll be a trip to the vets
so now i/family own 3 beautiful red-eyed white rabbits XD
pictures of him (called Thumper btw, nephew named him):

Yay! Congratulations!

Did he have nothing at all to eat or otherwise chew on for long periods at your sister's? If so I'd be concerned he needs his teeth looked at as they may have overgrown to the point he can't eat comfortably. Hope it's just all the changes he's been through!

For a while he had no toys or anything but when i got him he had a little wooden block & a piece of a cereal box, he didn't have food for about 2 days & no hay for a week or so, i'm hoping its just the changes too but if his eating habits don't change i'll definetly get him to the vets. Would waiting 2 days from now before deciding o go vets be okay or should we only wait for 1? he does eat a bit of food now but doesn't empty his bowl

He`s lovely. Rabbits can suffer from something called gut statis if they are deprived of food, so it`s important that he eats hay and seems to be chewing it okay. The dry rabbit mix is really a complimentary food but having his teeth checked would be beneficial. A vet check would be good actually because it would give you some peace of mind about his teeth and overall condition. Hope he settles in okay and starts to eat properly. x

I agree with racinghamster, but 1 extra day won't hurt anything. If he's eating now on his own then it's not quite an emergency. How's he pooping?

Make sure that he has unlimited hay and not too many pellets/muesli as he may fill up on those and therefore not eat his hay.

Good idea to take him to the vet and get him checked over.

Hope he bonds nicely to your doe once he has been done.

Thank you, he only gets about 1 small scoop of food for the day & a small top up at night if he's eaten all the pellets before i go bed, he has a litter tray full of hay, a capri sun box full of hay & a hay rack (in his cage) so never out of hay. Thank you, i too hope him and my doe bond well as i think it'll benefit them both as they're both young/energetic.

Awww he looks really contented. My rabbits get a handful of dry food a day per rabbit. I scatter feed them to help keep them entertained.
