I don't know all that much about it, but I have heard about something called the high white gene.
We don't have this really in the UK, but I know they have it in the US.
It occurs during breeding, if two rats with the high white gene breed, then there is a risk of the offspring having something known as megacolon. Its where the colon (intestine) gets blocked or something? The animals become severely constipated and as a result struggle to go to the toilet. Depending on the severity of it, some affected rats can become
incredibly bloated. (I would post a photo but I don't really want to look at the photos that will come up. Plus I don't think anyone else would want to see either! If you want to look, just google megacolon in rats or something)
It looks horrible and I am glad we don't have it really in this country!
