Meet Gemini
This is my newest addition Gemini my baby eyelash crested gecko. I got Gemini just over 3 weeks ago. Now I've got two cresties and Topaz is doing great. I won't know Gemini's sex for a while.

Re: Meet Gemini
Hey Panda's mommy I was just thinking about you today! Gemini is fab! I love geckos but only recently found out about the crested ones. What is the sex of your other one? Do you tell sex by color or size/shape? Sorry I should probably google but it's more fun to talk about it. Good to hear from you.

The great thing about most gecko species is that they don't need attention. They can strictly be pets to observe. There are some species that should not be handled at all due to their small size and fast movement such as electric blue day geckos. There are other species that have very delicate skin for example day geckoes and giant day geckos that should either not be handled or handled very carefully. They are also species such as tokay geckos that can be extremely aggressive. The best pet geckos crested geckos and leopard geckos. I've had both. My leopard gecko Devin I had for almost 14 years.....she was so tame. Leopard geckos originate in the desserts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. So they require a heat source, basking spot their temps need to be between 95-105 degrees. Crested geckos originate in the islands of New Caledonia about 750 miles off the coast of Australia and live in a tropical environment. They do not require a heat source unless you live in an extremely cold climate where the temp inside their cage drops below 65 degrees. They must not be over heated and 80 degrees is pushing it. If they get too hot they can easily die. I never let their cages get past 78 degrees. I use gel ice packs that I get from a reptile website to put in top of their screen tops to get the temps down. Cresties can be very tame however unlike leopard geckos they walk on walls and can jump, and far. They are also very fast when young and juveniles and can escape easily. It's best to start handling them as they get older and bigger. They tend to calm down a lot. But once tame they are great to handle......you do have to.be careful with their tails because if they drop them they will not regenerate like other geckos. They develop a stump. Leopard geckos I think are better for beginners but cresties are great and don't require any live foods.

Topaz is a girl. You rely on size and age to tell the sex of them. Can't go just by age because they all grow at a different pace. Usually around 9 months or 20 grams it's safe to tell what sex they are. It's going to be a while before I know what sex Gemini is.
