Post your little ratties!
I loveeee rats! I originally wanted a pair, but decided to get a hamster first and see how I go with that as an owner. I had no idea id fall head over heels for my little Pikachu haha! Rats are deffo the next pet for me though. I've been researching them for years now, looking at them in pet shops and watching videos!
I want to see your little cuties! :3

Re: Post your little ratties!
Thanks . The illness has been mainly respiratory infections that ratties are very prone to. Spanner (the black one) is now on medication for life to control his URI but he is perky and happy still. They are also on a diet because the vet said they are on the chubby side .
The names are because I love classic bikes and other than my pets, my bikes are my major hobby so I wanted a kind of bike/mechanical related naming theme .
This is a picture of Axl at 940 grams giving me a dirty look because I get my boys out every night and leave them to play on the stairs as part of their diet and exercise regime. The others love it but Axl really hates it, bless him.

Lady Pikachu have you thought about adopting rats when you decide to get them?

Re: Post your little ratties!
Ah....hammock love!! Gorgeous photos of your rats pewemouse. I kept rats a while ago and I adored them. I had five at separate times. A single male called Winston who was an SPCA rescue and the love of my life. Then I had Jack & Victor, again from the SPCA. Then three very large males from a rescue but they went on to live with a fancy rats forum member. Rats are wonderful pets, but for anyone who doesn`t understand their needs and illnesses, they can be a labour of love and heartache. I then kept fancy mice for ten years or so and to this day, still adore mice. x

Re: Post your little ratties!
Thanks racinghmaster , your ratties sound lovely. I'm on the fancy rat forum too and I used to keep mice!
My boys were from an acquaintance who took in some rescue does who all turned out to be pregnant, so the poor people ended up with over 50 rats.
She couldn't really cope with all the babies and they were living in poor conditions, plus the lady fed her rats on guinea pig pellets as their main diet which is very unsuitable. The babies were underweight and under developed. I got mine on an extra protein baby specific diet straight away and mine recovered and grew well luckily, as I got them so young.
They also had those squirty air fresheners right by the cages to keep the smell down, it smelled because the cages were so over crowded . I think this is why mine have had such problems with URI's.

Sounds as though you came along just at the right time pewmouse. There is nothing better than giving small animals a better life and I`m sure your ratties love you for the care you give them. x

Re: Post your little ratties!
Yes Thin Lizzy, when I do get rats I would like to rescue them. Hopefully young ones, as I want to enjoy my first rats as long as I can. It wont be for a while though, Pikachu is my priority at the moment and with a 8-6 job I have already sacrificed most of my spare time haha!
