Default 2 Kittens and a Mama **sigh**

So, I just ordered a cat/dog crate from Amazon along with a good canvas cover. A mama cat had 3 kittens about 6-8 weeks ago and 1 has disappeared. I am hoping it was taken in by someone. My landlady's aide was feeding them and so am I. But now it's getting really cold outside. I'd like to trap, spay and release mama cat, so I'll call my animal rescue and see if they can help. But I think I'd like to catch the kittens and, maybe, keep them. The cage was only $34.00 so, even if I don't keep the kitties, I can use it for Yoda when I visit my sister. (This way he can't sneak upstairs to their bedroom where he gets into trouble. ) They are lovely and I have been able to get one of the kittens to almost touch his nose to my hand. It's the cold that has me crazy. It was less than 20 degrees F here last night.

Aww poor babies. You're doing a lovely thing, I can never help myself when I see something like this. If you do manage to catch and keep them that would be wonderful for the kitties but either way I am sure they will all appreciate being warm!

I am sure that there are programs in your area that specifically deal with trapping feral cats, fixing them (aka spay or neuter) and then releasing them back where they were initially trapped. We have something like that down here in Charlotte, NC, so there must be something like that in a big wide city such as New York.

If you need help finding live traps for the kittens, try places like Lowe's or Home Depot. I've seen live traps of various sizes, from those for mice, to those for larger critters like dogs and cats. Just place some nice and smelly wet food inside the trap and let it sit over night, and by morning, you should have at least one of them.

Beware that kittens and cats, especially feral ones, are very wily and smart. They have to be to survive in the urban jungle. So not every cat can be captured this way.

I hope you catch them really soon, so they can be in the warmth and safe.

My family once caught a feral cat in a no kill trap, we didn't mean to, she just walked in! Turns out even when they look like kittens, they can still be preggy. We kept mama and one baby and adopted the rest out and my cousin has one. Shadow (mama cat) lives with my aunt now but she's very happy there. Hope you catch the mama and babies! It's sad how once they are feral they don't really ever fully tame. But if you give / get the kittens a new home, and fix mama cat, then at least it's a happier result than if you don't. Hope everything goes well! Meow!
