Default Guinea pig had a baby :S

Well as some of you know i recently adopted 3 guineapigs frommy elderly uncle, a boy and 2 giirls that had been kept together.

I thought they were ok, not pregnant and it had been a false alarm but i just found a baby :S

Its ok, the mum is ok (though im not sure which one it is) and there isnt any other babys x

SO yeah, help?
How do i know which one the mum is? Does it matter that there are two adult females in there?
What do i feed them?
when can i touch them?

They were outside in the shed and i paniced and bought them inside but my boyfriend said i shouldnt of taken them inside because the change of environment would of stressed them out but i dont know :S

First don't panic. Guinea Pig pups are born fully able to do just about what their Mom can do. They will start nibbling on pelleted foods and leafy greens around day 4-5 and need the same foods as their Mom does. It's fine to leave both adults together as often the one who is not the pups Mom will tend to the pup like a baby sitter, keeping the pup warm and even playing with it as the pup runs about. It takes 61 days from mating until birth so how long have you had these two adults? If longer then two months then best check the genders of your adults as one is not female. You can find who is Mom by watching for which pig it goes under to suckle. Nanny pigs won't allow the pup to nurse them as they have no milk.

Bringing them indoors in My opinion was a good thing as the pup needs warmth and if the temps are cold where you are it will help the pup to survive. The change of Temps for the adults may cause a bit of discomfort if they have coats for a cold temperature from the shed, but it will not be life threatening. You'll need to handle the pup soon to keep it tamed, and as soon as 2 weeks sex the little one as I had a 3 week old male pup breed his Mom when the pup was a singleton as yours is. Females genitals will look like an (i). Males will be a (Y) shape. At 3 weeks or older you can gently press on the top part of the Y part and if male a male bit will poke out of the skin.

If a female pup, she can remain with her Mom and Nanny(assuming the other Pig is Female) for life if their hutch is large enough for three adult piggies.

Oh thank god xD thankyou x ive had them for about a month and a half, i sexed them when i got them but i suspected they were pregnant but figured it was a false alarm x

Ahh thankyou, im glad i did the right thing

I do know the basics, sexing, what to do, logical things, but the moment i saw him/her i freaked out paniced and forgot everything xD haha x

One thing i am worried about is that the baby is imbred.

My uncle was ill and left them all together, but the two girls are mother and daughter, and the dad was her son.
So its either mother and son or brother and sister that have bred.

He looks ok to me, but im still worried about whats on the inside x
Could i hold him now? X

Wow, what a shock for you! Don't feel bad, I was prepared for the one chinchilla birth I had to deal with and even knew the due date but I was still a panicked mess

Don't worry about the inbreeding, that's more of a problem if the parents are carrying some sort of recessive, heritable disease. Even if they are, chances are the baby will be fine because the genes may have been shuffled in such a way that the baby didn't get the bad copies. It'll be ok

And hams.

The more I read, the more fascinating Piggies become.

I wouldn't worry too much about inbreeding Gazmo I'm sure pretty much all accidental litters happen that way with most rodents and it doesn't really matter unless it's a lot of successive generations.

Looking forward to pics of the piglet! Piggies are so adorable but I don't think I could fit more than one hamster (two at a stretch) in my tiny room never mind a piggie run!

I don't know what kind of food/hay/veggies you feed them, but the mom and baby will need extra calcium. You can give them a couple sprigs of parsley, a little bit of alfalfa hay, or pellets made from alfalfa. If you feed them alfalfa hay, don't forget to feed them their normal hay as well. The baby will need this until she's 6 months old. Make sure the non-nursing mom doesn't have too much calcium because then she can form stones.

Any pictures of her yet?
