Default Land snails + DIY enclosure

The snails have had an enclosure upgrade - they went from a Ferplast Geo Maxi...

...to a 64 litre Really Useful Box which I modified with my dads help (he drilled large holes into the lid, I then hot glued plastic mesh over them for ventilation). I actually got the idea to make this from looking at bin cages on this forum and Google images

They LOVE the extra space and were scooting around exploring all day long when I first put them in XD

There are currently 4 GALs (3 Achatina fulica, 1 albino Jadatzi) and 1 Pleurodonte isabella (small tree snail) in this new set up. It contains a soft artificial plant, piece of cork bark, large water dish/pool and a piece of amethyst. The substrate on the floor is rehydrated coconut fibre.

My two sisters and I collected snails in the 60's. We only done it the once. We put them in the tin bath in the (ex) coal shed. We had about 100 of them. Our mother went ballistic when she went to get the bath for us kids to have a bath and saw it was full of snails. . In them days, the bath used to hang on the wall in the shed next to the loo, and we had an outside loo. No creature comforts then. lol.

Thats awesome, I bet it was quite a sight! ^-^ I did something similar only with my mums old/unused fish tank in the shed XD I think she released them all one day while I was at school.

My sisters and I had to take them to the park and set them free. It took us a few days to collect them too. lol

I had a landsnail when I was 8. I also used to have an aquatic snail in my beta tank. I'm still rather fond of them. I find them oddly cute. What a nice home they have!

My mum has a few aquatic snails in her tropical aquarium the rabbit snails are especially fun to watch.

Thank you ^__^ I felt the options for snail suitable homes was a bit limited (glass tanks are easy to get hold of but they can be difficult to clean/heavy, and plastic tanks are generally too small for more than one snail). When I was looking around at the DIY/bin cages for hamsters I thought to myself "Im pretty sure I could do that for the snails"... had to make sure the bin had clips on the lid though; the snails are surprisingly strong and could easily lift a lid if it wasn't secured in place! XD Ive watched them test the lid already for weaknesses lol.

The only thing with bin cages is the opaqueness of the 'clear' plastic. The large cage you have is ideal as it is clear and light weight. I know you have moved them to a bin cage, but there are clear plastic fish tanks as well.

I like the colourings and markings on some snails.

Some of the plastic bins/boxes I came across were "clear" but coloured, so you couldnt really see into them very well. I was lucky that Staples were selling that size in the clear colour at the time and it was only £16.99!

I would have loved a BiOrb since they are plastic/acrylic based tanks, they come in such lovely shapes and good sizes but the only thing putting me off were the prices ^^; I tried shopping around for second hand ones but was unable to find anything the right size/within driving distance at the time. I did have a HUGE Exo Terra vivarium that I used to keep stick insects in but it weighed a ton.

I would love the large biorb. But as you say, the prices. Even second hand, they are expensive. I wanted one when I had tropical fish.
