Best diet for a cat?
So, through a series of events that would take me forever to explain, I am now in charge of a cat. It's not my cat, really, but it's mostly under my care at the moment.
Basically my main goal at the moment is to bring this cat's weight down. Until now her diet has been a cheap canned food in the morning, and a cheap dry kibble in the evening, and she had a bad habit of stealing the other cat's food, which led to being overweight. The other cat isn't in the house anymore, so now's the time to do something.
I know NOTHING about cat nutrition, and Google is completely unhelpful. Every link says something different. My hamsters' diet looks simple by comparison.
Any helpful advice or links would be much appreciated!
D: uh... Halp?

Re: Best diet for a cat?
Science Diet is one of the most popular foods out there. It's very expensive but loved by vets. A slightly cheaper one I am using for my cats (cause they started protesting Science Diet for whatever reason) is Purina One multiblend. They seem to really like it. I get the hairball formula cause they were throwing up hairballs like crazy. No more puking. There are weight control formulas at least for Science Diet and maybe the Purina. If you want to go all organic or high-end, there are other brands like Wild Blue or whatever. lol

Re: Best diet for a cat?
My cat had allergies so I was restricted in what I could give her but I was really pleased with Holistic Blend! When she got older and started to gain weight the next food she was able to eat was President's Choice Nutrition First Weight & Hairball Control. Those might only be available in Canada though

Re: Best diet for a cat?
I've never heard of either of those BrainGirl so Canada only was my first thought too, but I can't say I know every brand on the market either. lol
NiceCrocs, just avoid the cheap Wal-Mart foods. I made that mistake (during my cats' rebellion) and it probably wasn't healthy at all and they threw up orange dye all over the carpet. :/

I thought I'd mention them anyway since I don't know where NiceCrocs is located Plus President's Choice has sold some products in the US

Re: Best diet for a cat?
Thanks guys I live in Missouri, USA. I've never heard of the brands BrainGirl mentioned, but I'm somewhat familiar with science diet, I'll have a look at the cat foods available.
XD I'm not even a cat person, how did this happen? Lol

Haha well if it's not a devil cat, they melt people instantly. They are charming and cuddly and don't need to be walked or taken outside to pee/poo in the freezing cold.

LOL @ "devil cat" I've luckily never met one of those! Most kitties like me though, especially if I'm wearing clothes the opposite colour of their fur

Re: Best diet for a cat?
True, very true xD this one at least is sweet and well behaved, the other cat that's not here anymore was a little wretched demon >_< my little sister (owner of both cats) finally took him to the place she's living, as we just couldn't stand it anymore.
