Re: I found a dog in my garage...
He's gorgeous, and deffo a golden retriever, an American standard one rather than the English version. He looks like Shadow off Homeward Bound! .

Re: I found a dog in my garage...
Pursuing the Petfinder website, and classifieds, has convinced me that even when people pay money for a "pure breed" dog, they are often unprepared for any kind of behavioral training. Once they pass the cute puppy stage they get abandoned A LOT. Also it's very popular to hear "We're moving and can't take fillintheblankanimal". It's like people think of pets as toys/decoration. Beautiful dog Colby! I hope everything turns out well for everyone involved!

Re: I found a dog in my garage...
Awww I love Homeward Bound! One of my favourite films as a kid, the bit with Shadow on the rail tracks still makes me cry. x
I'm disappointed in myself now, because I'm a dog-breed-maniac and I'm unfamiliar with an American standard Goldie. I thought there was just one kind. What makes a Goldie an Amercian then?

Don't feel bad, Munchalot. I thought there was only one kind too but the American version I guess and not the English! I did know about the English/American versions of Irish Setters and Black Labs, and the American/German versions of the Rottweiler though, guess I shouldn't be all that surprised

Re: I found a dog in my garage...
Wow, poor guy...well, lucky to have ended up in your garage!
@Munchalot, have you ever seen the true working retrievers? We put Leo in kennels with a gun dog trainer and he has the true 'working' Golden Retrievers which are probably half the size of Leo with a much darker coat - but are they gorgeous! Leo is more of a show dog type so is larger and lighter in colour than these. Many show Golden Retrievers are very light in colour now, but I prefer a more 'Golden' Golden Retriever!

Re: I found a dog in my garage...
Haha, well I suppose there's probably different standards between the UK Kennel Kennel and the US one? I know most of the obvious ones, like Cocker Spaniels; American ones look so different! They look more like big cavs than cockers. Then you have American Alsatians and Akitas... Dogs vary so much depending on the countries where they're bred.
SinNyx, yeah I have. Gorgeous aren't they? They seem to be one of the breeds which vary so much in size, shape and coat, but then I guess you get that with a lot of working breeds. I mean, look at collies!
Labs vary a lot too. Working labs are like that, smaller, sleeker, and darker in coat. Working Red Fox labs are stunning.
And I always prefer working Cockers to show Cockers. Look like completely different breeds, but are healthier and better behaved.

Re: I found a dog in my garage...
@Munchalot, I was nearly in heaven when the owner let me see one of them....and the puppies! I honestly nearly took one home as the home fell through on one, not sure Leo would appreciate! They breed Labs and Cockers as well - it's a lovely place, probably and hour and a half drive in to Swansea and up some hills (worst part of the journey) but they have amazing fields and rivers that Leo loves - though the owner has described Leo as 'full of himself' which I completely believe, every time we went to pick him up he didn't seem to want to come home...
I really would like to say I hope this boy finds his owner again, but I'm sure Colby wouldn't mind keeping him, I know I would be temped - he looks so young as well compared to my oldie Goldie Leo.

Re: I found a dog in my garage...
I had no idea dogs looked so different in NA and the UK... lol!
He looks so happy. My sister has a golden who passed way too young, and they look similar. Such sweet dogs.

Haha, thanks guys .
We bathed him. He was absolutely covered in ticks and fleas. He had a tick the size of a quarter on him .
