6 new golden additions!
But not hamsters
We welcomed 6 Golden Comet chicks yesterday, they're 3 days old, and all girls.
When they grow up, they will become part of my egg-laying flock!
They will be golden with a bit of white lacing. Aren't they precious? I'll try to update with pictures as much as possible so we can watch them grow up on here !!!

Re: 6 new golden additions!
This is what they will look like full grown, they lay huge, dark brown eggs too

My grandpa kept a small flock of those. He called them his "girls"

Re: 6 new golden additions!
I would love to have a few egg laying hens, so I can have fresh eggs (I've heard that they are different from the ones you get at the store, the whites are more yellow and the shells are thicker), but alas, I live in a development type area that has a HOA (Home Owner's Association) which doesn't allow keeping farm animals or fowl of any kind. They are actually pretty clear on what you can and can't keep out in the yard.
Its because of the HOA that I never really got rabbits. We can't have a house bunny because of our cat and dogs, who would surely find one as a fun toy to chase around and possibly hunt. We can't build or buy a hutch for outside because we fear that it goes against the HOA regulations. Besides, the only place we could put the hutch is in the front yard as the dogs use the backyard all the time (its fenced in), and that wouldn't go over well with the HOA.
Besides, if we did have hens, the cleaning up of their coop would probably fall on me, and chickens aren't known for their neatness. So, I am sort of glad we don't have chickens.

They are little cuties. How long does it take them to reach adulthood?

Re: 6 new golden additions!
Chicks can be considered adult chickens at 3 months, that's when they should stop eating growing food and start eating laying food. Thanks for the lovely comments!

Re: 6 new golden additions!
Is it just a difference in the lighting or are their feathers darkening already in that second pic?
