Re: Our (now lots of) mice! (Pic heavy)
Wow, your mice are lovely!! I think any rodent is adorable and deserves a chance, but mice have a special, albeit unusual place in my heart.
I had a single male mouse once, which I rescued from being a neighborhood cat's next victim. I don't know how a fancy mouse found its way into the wilds of our neighborhood, but Mom and I knew he didn't belong out there, not being a native species of wild mouse, and needed us to care for him.
Since he was a red eyed white, and a male, I named him Algernon, after the mouse in one of my favorite books, "Flowers for Algernon". He lived in our house only a short time before his "male smell" made us move him to the garage. Rest assured, we wouldn't have done it if the weather in our area was terribly cold during the winter. We have very mild winters, with the ground not even freezing. I think the coldest its ever gotten around here was in the single digits, and that was this winter, when the arctic blasts came through.
Anyways, he lived happily in the garage for several months, until he succumbed to a cancerous tumor on his spine, leaving him unable to move his back end during his last month of life. I tried to accommodate his needs as his cancer progressed, moving him into a small plastic critter tote so he'd have ready access to his food and water without having to move around too much. He went peacefully in his sleep.
It was an unusual an unexpected adventure into mouse keeping, and I probably won't do it again, especially with another male fancy mouse, but I won't ever forget Algernon, and the love I gave to him when he had no one to give him any.
Sorry if I am hijacking this thread, but I love to share that story.

Good of you rescuing them all
I love all of them but I love Tigernut for the cuteness and Wheelnut for the name

Re: Our (now lots of) mice! (Pic heavy)
Thanks everyone
SinNyx -I'm guessing Stuart Little? (Although it doesnt work so well now you've said he was black and white)
Esmy - I've never owned rats (would love to one day), but I believe so
I loved Algernon's story HollyHamster, its great he had such a caring home with you
evel_lin - Yeah, definetly entertaining at times
Tutu - Glad you like Wheelnuts name, have to admit my Dad thought of that one and my Mum chose the mouse for it, I think they chose well
I'll definetly try to post pics when I remember to take them, I'm really glad so many people seem to like them all. Our first big news update is that after a quick check this morning we've learnt that Nutmeg is actually a female... She's developed to be a lot more clearly female since Monday. The mice are all doing well though and Nutmegs female side of the family accepted her back with no problems when we'd checked, waited a few hours then checked about four more times to keep confirming that she is definetly 100% absolutely definetly actually a girl We rechecked everyone else and there're a few we're still watching but we're sure the boys are definetly all boys now so thats a start. Getting Nutmeg out of the boys cage has seemed to settle them down a bit too which is good. Heres hoping she was the only one we weren't quite right with... Time will tell, but at least she hasn't had to be alone for her pregnancy watch

Thanks both, and I do like the Stuart Little films

Re: Our (now lots of) mice! (Pic heavy)
What a gorgeous bunch of mice! I love each and every one, and as usual you've given them awesome names.
I really want to start keeping mice, and your collection of moosers make we want them all the more! x
