I can't wait!!

I'm so excited! Yesterday I got in contact with a breeder, and I'm on her waiting list for my very first African Pygmy Hedgehog!! I have to wait until her first spring litter next year, but it gives me plenty of time to prepare. I've already started saving for the cost of the hoglet, the set-up, and the vet fund, and I've researched and emailed some local vets in the area to try and find a good one for exotics. I've just discovered though that one that I emailed (who also has some association with our pet shop and dog food) is one of the registered vets for the North Devon Hedgehog Rescue, and often treat their sick and injured hoggies, so I'm liking the sound of this one!

Gah!! I can't wait! I've wanted a pygmy for so long, I adore hedgehogs. We get frequent visitors in my garden, and I love them.
I'm after a little baby boy, Chocolate coloured, because they are so cute! :3

Does anybody else have/is looking for a APH?

They do sound lovely and it`s great that you have a vet who treats hoggies so that`s a big bonus. I don`t know anything about these little APHoggies but wondered if they are best alone or in pairs? My guess is alone since hedgehogs in the wild tend to be quite territorial? Not sure if captive species are the same though. x

I know, I'm glad I found that out!

Apparently they need to be kept solitary. Males will fight, sometimes to the death, and although females are a little more tolerant of eachother, they shouldn't really be kept together. Which is fine for me - at £100 each it wouldn't be very kind to my bank account if they needed company!

I would love one of these guys but really don't have enough space, they need a massive cage.

I know, it's quite a commitment but I love them!

ickle, yeah I know. :L I know I'm being a bit hasty, but I really can't wait! Plus it's better to be well prepared and all ready than struggling at the last minute.

It's going to be pricey, I'm going to have to save at least £300, but I'm aiming for more. With learning to drive and all the rest of it, it's a good idea to start saving now!

I used to have one, but he died last year

He was very cute and great fun to watch especially when he went for a jog on his wheel

Not very cuddly though I'm afraid!

Aww I'm sorry you lost him.

I know I love watching vids of them runnning on wheels, they are just too cute!! Don't worry, they may not be an animal to 'crave human attention', but I will make mine a cuddler!

I can hardly wait! But I know next year is the best time to get him, because I won't need to be in college then. There's no way I could get him now, once I don't need to live here him and the hams will get all my time.
