All the pets you've had...

I thought it would be interesting to make a list of all of the pets you had and if you did research before or after you got that pet (or not at all).

Remember that no research can mean you went by what the pet store/breeder/shelter told you or by what friends or family members told you, etc.

So I'll go first! (Just go as far back as you can remember or as you want...)

1st pet(s) (I think): A 10 gallon tank that held one goldfish and a few smaller fish in it. We had this tank for a long time and continued to add new fish in it when old ones had died. No research.

2nd pet: I believe my second (either second or third) pet was a dog (a Miniature Schnauzer). She is still with us today! Research done before and after.

3rd pet(s): Either 5 or 10 gallon tank that housed probably 5 medium and small sized hermit crabs. Given to us as a gift; bought at the mall. No research. (Let the record show that this was long before I--or my family--knew anything about the care of hermit crabs.)

4th pet: Another dog. She's also still living with us. Research before and after.

5th pet: a medium-sized hermit crab. He was kept in a small critter keeper with little sand and not much humidity. Read up on hermit crabs and bought a 10 gallon tank for him that included gauges for temperature and humidity, a bowl for saltwater and a bowl for freshwater, deep substrate, extra non-painted shells, etc. Research after only.

6th and 7th pets: yet another medium-sized hermit crab and a small hermit crab. Research before and after.

I now have a 20 gallon long with two of those same crabs in it. One of which has been with me for almost 2 years. Sadly, the little one didn't make it. Now that I only have 2, they'll be moved back to a 10 gallon while a new pet takes the 20....

8th pet: a dwarf hamster! I'll be getting it in a few weeks! Lots of research before.

What's caring for a hermit crab like? I was thinking about getting one.... Here's my list! It's not to long but it's a list!

1) Fish - I don't quite remember them, but I do remember that mine died because it went up the filter

2) A wonderful cocapoo doggy! Ruby!

3) More fish! Only one is still alive though....

4)Dwarf hammies! Meg and Jinj!

5ish) I'm getting a Syrian for my B-Day in September! (I know it's in like 3 months.....)

Well, I've had many animals and have only now come upon hamsters!

1) Mice - two white female mice, Scarlet and Squiddles. No research.
2) Parakeet - green male parakeet, Petey. Researched.
3) Rabbit - Male Holland Lop, Patches. Researched.
4) Cockatiel - Latino female, Dandelion. A ton of research!
5) Guinea Pigs - 2 Male American Shorthairs, Gus and Alfie. A lot of research.
6) And now a hamster - 6 week old Long haired Syrian hamster. Just got him and he is yet to be named! Spent a lot of time researching day and night, haha.

1)My first ever pet was a hamster named Ted, I was four, so there was no research there by today's standards, I got my mom to get me all the hamster books I could fine, and considering that was 16 years ago, they were useless.

2) My first guinea pig was when I was six, and again, today's standards would say I didn't do research, but I read everything, and he was a rescue, and lived in a 3 footx2 foot home, so it wasn't bad for the time
3&4 were also guinea pigs, same thing to be said.

5) tree frogs, did all sorts of research, they lived 7.5 years

6) our second dog, lots of research

7) Sheldon, first hamster since I was four (I was 19), researched
Toothless and Hiccup, dwarf hams, not well researched, it was an impulsive rescue situation since they were being given as snake food
(did research after we got them)
9) Chinchilla, well researched
10) Degu, well researched
11) syrian hamster, meticulously researched (it was when I found HC)
12, 13 were also syrians
14) Guinea pig (s), well researched

2) A Giant English Lop rabbit (doe) called Poppy. Some research done.

3) Another rabbit (albino Lionhead X Netherland Dwarf) doe, called Bella. More research.

4) Syrian Hamster called Tia. No research.

5) Another rabbit (albino Netherland Dwarf Cross - Bella's younger sister) doe, called Crystal. No research.

6) Guinea pig female called Freckles. Some research.

7) Yet another rabbit (buck) mixed breed, called Bicky. No research.

8 ) Pond full of Ghost Carp, Japanese Butterfly Koi, Golden Orf, Goldfish, ect. Researched.

9) Another Guinea pig female called Giggles.

10) My first ever dog, Molly the collie. No research needed, house full of dog lovers, mum worked in pet shop.

11) Syrian hamster male called Toby. Did some research.

12) Syrian hamster male called Basil. Did some research.

13) Syrian hamster female called Chino. A lot of research (breeding).

14) Another dog called Kizzy (English cocker spaniel X springer).


The rabbits had in total around 30 babies between them (except Poppy who was old) not sure if that counts. :L

1) Cockatil called zippy. miss that bird, love him! he lived until about 19 years old, i grew up with him <3

2) Shaggy - Rabbit - was mine and my brothers and lived with whiskers He only lived for a couple of years. He was a lion head <3

3) Whiskers - Rabbit - She lived with shaggy, and was my black rabbit who was quite chunky Miss her alot! <3

4) Nibbles - Gerbil - Lived for 2 1/2 years, was my little angel <3

5) Valo - Gerbil - Lived for 3 1/2 years, Miss you <3

6) Fatboy - Axolotl - My fat axie, now is 2 years old! <3

7) Midnight - Gerbil - Died at 2 years old roughly of an unknown cause - Died in my hands a few weeks back <3

8.) Oreo - gerbil - Sister to midnight, now about 2 years old <3

9) Scrabble - gerbil - Leader of his group! now about 1 3/4 <3

10) Snoopy - Gerbil - My little sweetie, he is lovely! now about 1 3/4 <3

11) Domino - Gerbil - Loves the wheel!! now about 1 3/4 <3

12) Pluto - Axolotl - Breeding with Jupiter, My little Man! Now 1 <3

1. Cockatiel charlie. I was born with him already my mum and dads.
2.Cat. sooty. Was a wild ferral kitten mum died my mum rescued sooty (he was nuts)
3. Gerbils. Kayote and krumble. Yet again rescued.
4 Guinea pig. Guiness. Mums brother won him in the pub.
5. Cat. Got as a tiny 6 week old kitten. Mum had always wanted a pure white kitten.
6. Syrian. My first hamster aged 7. Sparky. Beautiful boy lived to 3 1/2.

8. Bayley. Syrian.
9. Zak. Dog.My beautiful baby. A labrador now aged 11. Lots of research.
10. Hamish. Syrian.
11. Betsy. Mini lop house bunny. My princess. Lots of research.
12. Jeffro Syrian. Now 6 months and gorgeous
13. Wilbur. Robo. Rescue. 9 months. Research.

Also had lots of cold water fish.

1) Dougal, English sheep dog cross. My parents dog when I was born, apparenly he'd sit next to my pram and growl at people he didn't know if they approached me!

2) Syrian hamster when I was very young (5-6), my parents looked after it mostly, but I think it helped me respect animals from an early age.

3) pair of female Russian dwarves which were from a freinds unexpected litter.

4) goldfish won at a fair ground, it was in a poor state when we brought it home and dad and I didn't think it would last the night, however we nursed it back to health and it lived for a further 10+ years. And led to me having uncountable numbers of cold water fish over about 20 years.

4) Syrian, which was from my mums school, she had to bring it home as it was nipping the children. I looked after it for a while and got it used to being handled, before it went back. However I continued to care for it over holidays etc.

5) another couple of Syrians which I had before going to university, including one which was an amazing escape artist.

6) Jay&Bob two male rats, great pets, I loved these guys to bits and think about them lots. These were probably the first pets I really researched as such, previous ones I'd relied on my dads knowledge and reading books reactively rather than proactively.

7) Little Obama the gold fish. This was my last fish. Mum fell in to my old pond at my parents house while mowing the lawn, she was fine, but punctured a hole in the pond. I didn't think there were any fish left in there, however as the water drained away there was a tiny runt goldfish. I put him in an old tank and he lived with me for a few years before passing away.

8 ) two female chinchillas. These two are now approximately 6 years old.

9) Two adopted female Robos - Pixel&Inch

10) Single male Robo - Little Nico Rosberg

On top of that I've looked after numerous hamsters, chincillas, gerbils, rats and dogs for freinds and family while they have been away.
