I am so stupid
I may have looked on gumtree and found baby rats for sale, I have wanted a rat for ages but with my hammy, cat and two dogs I really dont know if I can take one on they will be ready next week and are so gorgeous I know I could give one a fab home but the cage set up wont come cheap.
Need advice maybe someone can advise on where to get a cheapish decent cage.
regards kayleigh

Re: I am so stupid
If you want to do it then go for it. The girl that I live with has two male rats called Tui and Ash, they are adorable and so cuddly! Rats need big cages as they are extremely active and can jump up 2ft or more. You're probably best having a good ratch online to see what cages you can find. I'll have to ask her what cage she has too.
Let me know what you do
Getting new pets is so so exciting x

Re: I am so stupid
I'd make sue you do your research first and asses if a rat is the right animal for you. They need a lot of interaction. I love Gary my ratty but once he passes I won't be having more. I have the jenny rat cage and in my opinion it is perfect for up to 3 rats, although the rat cage calculator says it could hold six, I always find this overestimates though. If you want more then I'd look into a liberta explorer or savic royal suit.

Re: I am so stupid
yes rats should be kept in pairs or groups as they are group animals and wouldnt be very happy alone but there are exception to this.

Re: I am so stupid
The mamble on little pet warehouse is a fab cage at a good price. I personally would never keep less than a pair together under any circumstances if at all possible, and my personal minimum per group is 3 as it gives a better group dynamic. I would also say: be prepared for the vets bills. Rats are more expensive than you think and are highly prone to respiratory infections, mites and tumours. If you are serious about getting rats I would svggest approaching some good respectable NFRS breeders or going to a rescue rather than supporting gumtree breeders. There is a Huge level of health difference between good breeder rats and backyard breeder/pet shop rats.
The fancy rats forum is fab and I can't recommend it highly enough

Re: I am so stupid
those are great cages! I wish they would deliver overseas....it seems like the UK has way better cages then Canada and the US. Good luck with the new rats if you get them
