I have had steppe lemmings in the past, they are funny little things!

They like to run on wheels like a hamster but they also like to dig like a gerbil.
They need A LOT of space because they are pretty active and mine weren't keen on being handled.

They are sugar-intolerant so need a pretty complicated diet, they cant just be fed hamster/gerbil food.

Yeah it would. Mine were kept in a tank.
Steppe lemmings dont need a barred cage as they dont climb.

If you have a tank you can really make it into a natural habitat for them using tunnels, soil, hays and all sorts of stuff.

I saw a video of these little guys on another forum and they were very active and gave me the impression that they loved living in large colonies, but I was then told that they can be volatile and need watching! I don`t think they have a long lifespan either. Something like 2 years...? not too sure to be exact though. Wouldn`t mind a couple of males though as I love `watchable` pets aswell as huggable ones!
