Smile Getting 2 Parakeets for my birthday!

After 2 long years convincing and researching, I convinced my parents to let me get 2 Parakeets (I was going to get 1 but now 2 because with one is just mean, and my dad said I can get 2)!
I have all the stuff for them (from my last bird), and they will be going in my room.
I also have the idea of hanging these fake vines from my bedroom sealing and letting the birds fly around in my room and on them. Of coarse I have o watch out for poo!
So what do you think?
If there are any Parakeet owners on here, I would like if you can tell me some more information on this pet and suggestions.
Thanks, oh and my birthday is next year on April 22 (Ill be 13).

Honestly, I have to tell you I had to google parakeets as I have no idea of what they are lol. So when I googled parakeet pictures of budgies came up...are you getting budgies? That is very exciting and I think you are right...it's better to keep them in pairs rather than on their own

As far as I'm aware a Parakeet is an umbrella term for a wide range of species of Parrots (Budgies are also a species of Parrot). I may be wrong on this, but I'm least 90% sure. Do you know what species your getting?

I have 2 parakeets. If you are going to let them fly around the house, you need to make sure it's safe... like no fans on, no exposed warm places (lightbulbs, etc.) because they will fly... everywhere!!! They are fun to watch, but my boys don't realy like to socialize with me. They keep to themselves, even though I have been trying for almost a year to get them to "play." If you don't think your home will be safe, I'd suggest getting their wings clipped. It's very humane, and the birds will just have to stay grounded, and they will hop around. It's kind of cute Samuel and Sylvester came with their wings clipped, and we got them clipped once more, but then decided our home was safe enough to not worry about putting them through that stress. Good luck Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hah yea, Parakeets and Budgies are the same animal. In the UK they call them Parakeets and mostly in the USA they call them Budgies

I have no fans in my house. Is it a good idea to close the blinds when they come out? I have heard of birds flying into windows and breaking their necks.I would never want this to happen! I also remember my mom closing all the doors and blinds when she let our bird out. He would just hop , but sometimes flew.
Thanks you, Ill ask if I need any help

I have a lutino budgie (Raphael) not sure what the vine thing is that you mention. I do have some hanging toys and swings in some of the windows which my budgie will fly up onto (I'll try find pic of him sitting on his swing and a few more pics of him.)

Yes, you're right about covering the windows, also cover any mirrors when your birds are out of their cage.

I'll look forward to seeing photos of your budgies.

My boys do run into walls at times. We keep the blinds down but open (do you know what I mean?) and the boys will sit on them!!!

Aawww so you mean a budgie....I used to have them when I was younger. We always kept 2 together.
I was told budgies when they find their mate only stay with that one and will pine for him or her if they get split up

I'd love some budgies again.
One of mine (Sweep) used to talk, he used to say good morning to us and knew our names. And he would come out and fly around all the time.
One time though he sat on my head, leaned down and pecked my eye!!

Ah...4 years in the UK now and it's the first time I come across the word parakeet

I used to have budgies as well when I was a child. They are great fun...never was able to properly tame them though. I would love to have cockatiels...but they'll probably make a lot of noise
