Question Guinea pig weight...oh god

We have 3 female pigs and 2 male pigs.
The females are fairly new (well may time so altogether they are 5 and 6 months old)
The males we adopted from a rescue and were 2 years when adopted.

Weigh time;
We haven't been weighing them on schedule e.g. not every saturday just roughly once every week.

Females;
Ruby-888-885-905g
Millie-750-779-758g
Oreo-725-752-783g

Males;
Bramley-1222-1253-1285g
Pudsey-1298-1299-1354g

...so er most are putting on weight (maybe a little to much...) Millie gonw down a bit but not by a significant amount but will be weighing her daily to just keep an eye on her.

So what are your thoughts as this seems a bit strange?!
Thanks!
Willow xx

That's not really a massive increase in weight, but something to keep an eye on with the boys (since they will be fully grown). The females aren't fully grown yet, so you'd expect them to be gradually increasing - they normally end up around the 1 kg mark. Weighing at a different time (eg after a big veggie meal) can add to the weight, but then it's just a temporary thing.

The main offender for weight gain would normally be too much dried food.

Thankyou,
the only dried they are given is pellets and hay but boy they Lurvve there hay!
We weigh them around tea time every time but I can't really decrease the hay because they need around about 70-80% (I think)
Thanks, Willow xx

It's not the hay that you need to look at. As you say, they should be having masses of it (I'd say at least 80% myself, rather than 70-80%). Have you weighed the pellets and veg at all? Pellets are highly concentrated, so they really only need a small amount.
