Me also. Although I do think he games as a filler thing to do because he wanted to be a professional chess player and is super intelligent he hates being bored and our jobs are stupid easy so I sort of think its a coping thing til he is more challenged. which i am working on. He is brilliant at chess but without finances in order could never just pursue it as the better you are and higher the level of play the more you need to study it to do well and since we don`t have the money to travel for him to do tournaments he can't really progress as well which i know bothers him. its weird for me to see him so disinterested in animals to the point where he won`t interact with them. would be nice to see a nurturing side to him but i gues thats mostly a female thing? i don't know.

OH means Other Half

My OH calls Luna "rattie" too, but as a funny nickname lol. My mum thinks she looks like a bat with her black ears >.<

I call my hams rattie and get told off by Mr.B XD

Thats a real shame about not being able to continue with his chess but (and maybe this asks too much from some people) but he shouldn't be miserable all the time because of one thing I know we would all be more than upset if we were in that position but it sounds a bit like he is sulking like a kid rather than a mature adult who would try and find ways of getting along with it all.
I'm not sure what else can be suggested though If he absolutely refuses to interact with them... Hope something works out.

I guess I am very lucky. My OH is not quite as bad as I am and he is not really the one who gives the boys their primary care but they are our pets. I am under no illusion that Greyjoy has picked Lee to be his Hooman... The same with the rats they are my addiction but a few of the boys are defiantly daddies boys...

Any pets we have, are always under the banner of 'my pets', rather than 'our pets'. I'm the one that cleans poo off toys, feeds, deals with the vast majority of the livefood (guess who spent her day cleaning out roach, mealworm and beetle tubs!), and has the hour-long out-of-cage time with the hog. And when it is time for the robos, I'll be the one cleaning/feeding/handling them as well.

That said, he does do Bodhi's water every night, puts her wheel back on it's stand (I wash it, but it is something ), and eyeballs the bug gel in the beetle tank. He also vacuums out her cage while I wash the toys/houses/etc.

We both agreed before we got her that we missed having pets in our lives (he's a cat man, I'm deathly allergic to cats...but am a rodent/dog person!). Getting the hog was my idea, and was funded mostly by me (and a nice fat cheque from him for my birthday present). The same with the robos - he found them in the pet shop back in the spring, said they were cute...I decided we needed some, and have bought all their bits and pieces, but again, he owes me a podgy cheque for christmas to actually pay for the critters themselves.

As long as it is a 10 minute discussion (rather than a rambling 4 hours), he's happy to chat about things - will come and nod correctly at pictures of hamster toys on the internet, and listen to fun facts I've learnt that day about whichever animal I'm looking at.

But then, I did start the relationship telling him that primates are my life, and that they will always come first, and I guess that extended to other beasties. He's my favourite human, but he knows better than to try to deny me something - he's just not terribly good at saying 'no'

No ideas for you-I'm in the same boat. My Dh actually likes the hamsters and holds my syrian a lot but he doesn't like the guinea pigs for some reason. We also have 2 rabbits that are my oldest son's that he tolerates but they shed too much so he grumbles about that a lot.

My OH thinks Squeak is so cute (he did buy her for my Birthday after all) and he has made two fab bin cages, but he won't hold her or pet her. It started from the last time I had hamsters, when Bandit yawned in his face revealing his teeth, and my OH sat on his hands after seeing them. Quite funny actually

he`ll help me with pets if its urgent so i really should be grateful for that lately he has taken to feeding the guinea pigs some and giving them carrots. If i pretend to neglect them by doing things while he is at work or asleep he doesn`t see them get done then worries about them kind of mean i supose but at least it makes him display some emotion towards them. i think he might be coming around to them more. and he has helped me catch echo during one of her daring escapes. she looooves to escape doesn`t get very far but is very good at getting out of her cage even when i am watching her. he helps me catch her and put her back. i have mobility issues with being on the floor and lifting anything due to scoliosis my balance just isn`t there for that level. so i`m grateful for that much. i looove that he is starting to care a bit tho. and i`m really not neglecting any of my pets so don`t worry.
