Exclamation No more toilet paper tubes?

I saw this article, talking about tubeless toilet paper being terrible for crafts: Rise of tubeless toilet paper a ‘complete catastrophe’, says Blue Peter star | Waste | The Guardian

Cushelle have developed a toilet roll that doesn't need the tube any more. They talk about how they're a market leader and reacting to consumer demand. I hope they're not right because if all the toilet rolls go tubeless, and kitchen towel rolls inevitably follow, making hamster boredom breakers is going to be harder.

I know that environmentally it will be better, but I hope there's one brand somewhere that's a hold out, so all the crafters and pet owners can buy that one.

I had not heard this. Maybe you can use children's glue to make a roll out of a piece of card. I know that is not the same.

That doesn’t sound great but I’m sure something else will come along - I think you can actually buy cardboard tubes for crafts.

I’ve found in the last couple of years that some toilet roll tubes are much smaller than others too and not much use.

Seriously though if they get rid of the tubes, millions of people have toilet paper holders screwed or tiled into the walls! How would we store them or access them if not by the hole in the middle on a stand or holder?

I really doubt tube free toilet paper rolls will be as big as some companies seem to think they will be. We've had them for quite a while now in the US actually from at least one company, and even still pretty much any other company keeps the rolls in.

The big downside I already know of with the lack of rolls is that the toilet paper roll itself without that core is much less stable. They can collapse in on themselves and just overall be way more hassle than they're worth. I'd imagine it would be even harder for larger things to remain stable without that structural support, so having it extend beyond just toilet paper would be difficult.

Can't see this happening with economy brands.

I did wonder how you're supposed to hang your toilet paper without a tube in the middle. And if the packing of it means they can get rid of it, surely when you get near the end it would all fall apart.

I do buy my toilet paper based on the size of the roll - some can be so narrow.

Buying a cardboard tube feels weird somehow, when you can effectively get them for free.

I've always wondered how Amazon gets away with their excessive and ridiculous packaging.
Would make more sense for them to do their bit to save the planet.

Has anybody seen these 360 sheet new loo rolls without the cardboard tube? I expect they'll cost twice as much which wouldn't go down well with consumers.

Just saw them at Asda. I can see how it works. More sheets makes it dense enough to leave the middle free. 6 rolls for £5.50 which equals 9 standard rolls costs less than i thought.
The rolls wouldn't fit in some spare toilet roll holders people use so can't see the cardboard tubes disappearing from all brands. See how it pans out.
