Hammy life span , not fair.
Its not fair that hamsters only live 2 to 3 yrs.You fall in luv with that tiny face, tiny toes, and adorable bottoms. I love my 2 dogs, but the 2 hammies make my heart warm, I smile on the inside.

I know. What I try to think these days is that although they don't live long, we get to see them throughout their whole lives and watch them evolve from whizzy babies, through to confident middle age and then gentle old age. We see their whole lifespan. But it is so very hard when they leave us.

And not only that, we also know that our hamsters have a good life and that we are part of their whole lives to make it as enjoyable as possible for them.

Re: Hammy life span , not fair.
After losing a hamster fairly young at roughly 7 months old, I was still just as in love with hamsters and wanted to get another right away. The only reason I didn't was because in that situation my parents decided it would be a bad idea because of my mental state at the time because of her loss.
I know their lives can be extremely short, but to me at least they're just as wonderful and interesting as any other pet. They may not wish to cuddle with you or do any fancy tricks, but that doesn't change how important they truly can be.
I think it's probably harder for people who are used to the lifespans of pets like dogs and cats who live significantly longer, but then there are some people who prefer the shorter lifespans. As much as I love more long living pets in general, the lifespans of 10-20 years or in the case of some pets 30-50+ years can be extremely intimidating compared to 2-3 years(even if it's a big commitment either way that should never be taken lightly).
I know some people will feel differently after going through the loss of a beloved pet with such a short lifespan and as such may never wish to keep hamsters or pets with similar lifespans again, but that isn't the case for many of us.
