Good Books for Hamster Care
There aren't many books on hamster care from my digital library and so one of my only options is to either torrent them (which I don't want to do) and to buy them. However, I want to buy a book that has actual good information instead of blatant misinformation that could be harmful to my new hamster.
Books on general hamster care (or rodents in general) would be appreciated, but specifically pertaining to dwarf hamster care (don't care what species, I'm keeping my options open) would be great.
Thanks so much,
-Night

Re: Good Books for Hamster Care
You're not going to find accurate up to date books.Stick with reliable and up to date information from reputable sources instead, otherwise you could end up with a book telling you for example cotton fluff is just fine or tiny cages are perfectly suitable

Re: Good Books for Hamster Care
Good books are hard to come by, about the only one I know of that can be fairly easy to get hold of is Hamster lopedia, some of the info is very dated now but the basic information on caring for a hamster, hamster health etc is still well worth a read & useful to have on hand.
I have yet to find a dwarf specific book that is worth buying, again there are books out there but I wouldn't even know where to look!

Re: Good Books for Hamster Care
To be honest, all the hamster books I have ever read, I have strongly disagreed with on a lot of care aspects. I have heard of Hamsterlopedia and heard good things, but I don't see the need to buy it when I have the whole internet at my disposal.
I've picked up tha majority of my knowledge from reading threads on Hamster Central or from specifically creating threads for my questions. I also learnt a lot from binge watching ErinsAnimals YouTube videos. I would say these are the best sources of information because with Hamster Central you get a range of opinions and most will be backing each other up so you can be sure you're getting accurate information.

Argh! `
Just about to recommend Hamsterlopaedia. I've heard a lot of good things about it. Here's a link to a review of it in case you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mRhPGpMcGY
But honestly, forums and reputable Youtube channels (Erinsanimals, HoppingHammy, Hammylux, and ChocolateColors26) are the best way to go if you need advice.

Re: Good Books for Hamster Care
I too agree, hamsterlopaedia is a book held in high regards by breeders and experienced keepers, but no book could ever match the amount of information you can get online! The communities online are made up of highly knowledgeable breeders as well as just general keepers and thus there's tons of opinions to consider. A book unfortunately has the opinion of just one or perhaps two keepers rather than a plethora like the internet would have. Plus, information online is constantly evolving and being changed when it needs to be unlike books. All in all, I'd check out hamsterlopaedia as it can be purchased with nothing more than pocket money

Thank you all so much for the information! I'll definitely be sure to use my online resources when I get my hamster. And I'll definitely be sure to get Hamsterlopaedia. Once again, thanks!
