Lost hammie, please help!
I don't know what else to do, and I'm so devastated.
I had my hamster Chihiro in a bin cage, and she chewed a hole into it and escaped. She's been missing for a day now, but I think I know where she is. I head scratching and squeaking in the walls and hope that it's her (and not some other animal because I live in an apartment). I've noticed some holes underneath the heater in my bedroom and think that's how she got into the wall. I've been trying to coax her out with apples and cheese that lead to a cage and a bin that she can't climb out of, but she's only taking the food close to the hole. I don't know what to do about calling maintenance because I don't know how much help they would be to get her out. I'm so distraught that I've had nightmares about it all night and I don't know what else to do. Feedback would be really appreciated.
Thank you

Use the bucket trick, get a bucket and use books as steps, put treats on them and fill the bucket with substrate should she fall in. Try luring her out with chicken.

Thank you! I tried using a hamster tube to lead her into the bucket, but that doesn't seem to be working. She took more bait at the beginning and ignored the rest. What kind of chicken should I use?

Re: Lost hammie, please help!
Hams can disappear into walls & stay there for some time before eventually coming out, just that she's taking food from close to the hole is a good sign, try the chicken that Lizzy suggested & maybe nuts or any other favourite treats, move the food a little further away & close to the bucket & fingers crossed she'll get hungry & thirsty enough to come out soon.

Don't give up hope, the chances of recapturing her are already way higher considering the fact that you know where she is. As people said above, leave out food and water in a bucket or bin that she can't escape from. The walls are an excellent hiding place, but what they lack is food and water and hams are very food driven little critters. Good luck and keep us updated.

Re: Lost hammie, please help!
I think my problem is that I keep resetting the trap. She only took one little piece that was close to the hole she's in yesterday. I didn't replace the missing treatment hoping that she'll come e out and try to get the ones in the bucket. Thank you all for the encouragement and advice.

Hoping for you that she comes out soon! Be persistent and patient and keep watching that hole.

Re: Lost hammie, please help!
You could put her cage near the radiator hole. Does it have a front opening door? Or if just a top opening door use the cage like a bucket trap You'd need to make sure there was a bit pile of substrate under the top door and nothing hard she could land on. Or if there's a front opening door a tube or ramp leading up to it with bits of food spread out along it.

Re: Lost hammie, please help!
I made a ramp using books and Legos leading to the bin that has bedding at the bottom for padding. I had put a few pieces of carrot and apple going up the stairs (she only took the first/closest piece last time I checked) as well as apples, carrots, and peanut butter into the bin with some food. The stairs are already pretty close to the hole but not right outside of it. I also put some cages with the door down in case she decides to climb in one of those, but no luck.

I suggest watching ErinsAnimals video on getting your hamster back on YouTube if you can, it's basically everything you've heard with even more suggestions, best method I've ever heard
