Since when did these become safe?
JR Farm Kapok Pod Of Nesting Material | Great Deals
I am in a facebook group and warned someone about fluffy bedding/cotton whool, but got multiple replies that i was wrong and since it came from a pod then it was safe? Since when? Is there something I completely missed?

Re: Since when did these become safe?
Never saw anything like that. A banana full of nesting material. Doesn't sound safe to me, I wouldn't take a chance. The hamsters in the photos look they were having fun, their feet can get caught in the fluffy bedding and break a leg?

Re: Since when did these become safe?
I would think it dangerous too and dont worry i would never let my hamster play with it. I'm just surprised by how many people told me that THIS stuff was safe, as it wasnt fluffy bedding but a natural material
So i guess i just wanted to know if i completely missed something or if people are being uhh less logically thinking

Re: Since when did these become safe?
Less logically thinking is definitely one way to put it Unfortunately it is a fairly gimmicky product and a lot of the time it gets labelled as safe and natural, just like a lot of cotton was labelled.Hopefully the truth is eventually known throughout the pet care community, but so far it is fairly well known at least on this forum!

Re: Since when did these become safe?
I have seen this for sale in a well known pet shop chain store. It is no safer than any other fluffy bedding. Ie it is unsafe.

Re: Since when did these become safe?
I think there was a debate on here about it once, with it being described as natural, and the consensus was, it's not safe, even if it's natural. It could still cause blockages.

well yeah i couldnt put it in a less offensive way ^^' It's very easy to be really offensive though, but that would be no good
Serendipity I think I have read that thread and that is why I was so sure about this being a dangerous product. I just couldn't understand why so many people would get offended that I gave them a heads up that the cotton stuff was dangerous.
Thank you all for your input. For a moment I got confused if I had gotten this wrong. But I guess that these small things are the reason I really don't do well in danish hamster groups. My opinion on hamster care differs too much from theirs and with scenarios like this, where nobody will believe that this stuff is dangerous, I get very frustrated. I mean, one thing is not agreeing on what mix to feed them, or if pellet or muesli is better. But I will keep worrying about this little fluff getting stuck in the cotton for days

Re: Since when did these become safe?
I saw some by Rosewood from P@H.
I'm just wondering if the issue with that is only blockages as I have seen that specific one breaks apart really easily, no matter how much I tried to tangle it around my finger, it wouldn't hold and just fell apart. Btw I haven't and would never use it for any hamster, but I know people with hamsters who have used that one.

Re: Since when did these become safe?
Blockages, ripping off nails or tangling around teeth potentially, etc. The same exact risks as cotton(which,by the way,is also a natural product which we know very well is unsafe). There's really no need for people to take such a risk when toilet paper/loo roll is in every country and is the cheapest option of all especially considering it won't cause vet bills or potential death!
