Commitment
How committed are you to seeing that your hammie has the best life possible every day till the end of their life? When the newness wears off, when they hide or bite? Do we spend enough time with them or would we rather be on the forum than spend a little time with our pets? Why do we want more and more pets and then find that some of us aren't committed to them?
Do they have fresh water daily? Are their wheels clean? Are their cages kept up? Do we do all we can to spoil them every day?
What is one thing you can do to commit to making sure your pets have the best life?
I'll start, I have a winter white who is getting old and doesn't interact as much, I will commit myself to talking with her and giving her attention every time I can instead of just waiting out her days. I won't push her aside to play with the younger hamsters more. I'll put my genuine heart into making sure I'm seeing her through till the end.

Re: Commitment
i love my hetty, i do admit that some days i don't spend as much attention with her but I'm at work anywhere from 6 to 32 hours at a time.
she doesn't spend a lot of time out of her tank but thats because up until 2 weeks ago she would still try and jump out of my hands no matter where we are, she's slowly getting used to being held which is good!
but she always has clean water and food in her food bowl, she has 5 tubs of different types of treats -dried fruit and veg, dandelion roots and nettles, rose feasts etc etc etc, i like to think she's living a happy life and all her needs are being filled! she certainly seems happy

Re: Commitment
Nelly would let me know if I wasn't paying her enough attention haha, she goes crazy when she needs to be let out for a run
I'm very particular about changing her water every day and her litter tray also. I just feel so awful when I don't get to see her in an evening, if I'm out or something. She is definitely spoilt rotten but I wouldn't have it any other way - she's my baby and I committed to providing that life for her when I bought her. It's a shame that some people don't have that same love and devotion that everyone here does.
Must go let her out, she's chewing on the bars and telling me it is time!

Re: Commitment
Woodstock, my fuffy white syrian has always been a gentle hamster who is very contented and easy to handle. I have missed being able to interact with him lately due to his mites. They are all better now thanks to our lovely vet. He will be two in october so i cherish my time with him.
I was given Gopal the chocolate syrian by a friend who felt that she couldnt devote enough time to him and her new business. She loves hearing about him and comes to visit! He has taken ages to become strokable and will now climb into a tube for sessions in his taming box.
The lovely roborovski sisters, Flower and Fairy are happy for me to watch them and to chat. They whizz about gathering food, washing and playing on their wheels. They often come out in the day time as well as the night so i get to see quite a bit of them.
I enjoy giving them all fresh water and making interesting food mixes out of all the naturals food, science selective biscuits and various muesli mixes i have for them. Got some linseeds coming on the tesco delivery tomorrow. I also love watching them eating. Theirmlittle pawsies ... broccli seems to be a big favourite as does porridge.
Its great having lots of hamsters as it gives more chance of interaction or at least a sighting! Cant wait to get to know my latest black eyed cream syrian.
I am committed to them for their whole lives. Really sweet thread.

Re: Commitment
I think I was going thru hammie burn - out a little taking care of 4 hamsters. One of them is near the end of her life, a little discouraging that I could lose her at anytime with the tumor she has.
None of their wheels are real easy to clean & keeping up the joy was getting difficult. So I said a little prayer & all the discouragement went away. I have a renewed pleasure to continue to take real good care of my babies that depend on me.
