If you look at the end bits compared to mine you'll see that the end panels are sitting on the drawers in the first photo where the ends slighty overhang on mine?
So if it's sitting on the ends the actual glass itself isn't being supported by the surface of the drawers so if you could slip something into that gap, ideally in the middle, you don't run the risk of the glass bending too much and *possibly* shattering. It's unlikely to happen since tbh mine was sitting like that for ages, there was a bit of bend in the glass and it was fine but just to be safe
