I think a lot of people see their pets as their kids, just try telling a mother how to raise their child and most will chew you head off. Instead of saying "you should do this and this, and never do this" Try saying like "This is what i do, and i found such and such improvements because of said thing".
Think of how parents meet on the playground and talk about their kids.
