Talking Familiar actors in the darndest places!

I just watched The Secret of NIMH for the first time in ages and actually paid attention to the people who gave their voices to the characters. I've long been familiar with the fact that Jeremy the crow was voiced by Dom Deloise (you have got to see Haunted Honeymoon) but I actually paid attention to the others listed in the credits this time and darned if there weren't some familiar names there too!

Shannen Doherty was the voice of the oldest mouse daughter (remember 90210?), Wil Wheaton (Star Trek:TNG) was the bratty little boy mouse, Hermione Baddeley (Mrs. Cratchit in my favourite version of A Christmas Carol) and Derek Jacobi (whole lotta roles) was the leader of the rats

I'm terrible for spotting "that person in that thing & continually pointing it out to my boyfriend who couldn't care less I don't know why but I always like spotting someone from a favourite programme pop up in something else I like.

I gotta download NIMH.....I've heard so much about it! But yeah, its weird sometimes. Besides living in NY and passing famous people on the street, I worked in theatre/film/tv since forever....and sometimes I get confused. I kept feeling weird watching the Game of Thrones seasons with Stannis.....till I looked it up, and realized it was an actor I liked, and had one scene with in a movie.....so I got confused when seeing him like.....do I know him? Made it hard to watch any scenes with Stannis in it.....

I think I'm worse at spotting that person in that film since I get confused between good character work, the person I met or knew, and the name brand of the person? it can drive me wonky watching a movie.....WHO IS THAT!!! I KNOW THEM.....but my memory of them is warped by knowing a person, and then seeing them after makeup and stuff and in a different role.

I definitely haven't cut back on watching movies, TV, plays, and listening to music, but for the last fifteen years or so, I have cared very little about the names of the actors since I rarely work in the business any more. Its easier to just relax and watch the show then.....

You know Dom Deloise as a rat, I know him from a cheesy TV show but more importantly, working at the Met Museum in NYC one summer and he returned his guided audio tour to me since I worked there. Friends on the job were 'OMG, do you know who that is? ' I was like.....yeah? He asked if he could keep the acoustiguide ....I told him for fifty bucks I didn't care what he did

You can get NIMH on youtube

I have that same problem with people who have made a role their own, or more especially, who have been doing one recurring role so long that they can never leave that character behind. Then it is weird to me to see them doing someone else.

I love watching British tv shows for that, especially British mysteries. There's a lot of "cross acting" going on there. The same person will show up in Sherlock Holmes, Touch of Frost, Coronation Street, and Midsomer Murders. That last one is my favourite for spotting actors because they often star the old greats at the ends of their careers. In spite of the bloodshed it's really not a serious show either so they tend to have a lot of fun with it.

As for Dom Deloise, he didn't play a rat in NIMH, he played Auntie Shrew. I love it when he does female characters. He played the eccentric and...voluminous (for lack of a better word) Aunt Kate

On YouTube! Cool!

The Brits, on the whole, tend to support acting/theatre/drama more than the Yanks. It's actually a viable career there! LOL....and given a bit of respect. So people do a lot of cross acting , showing up in any and everything just to be working and doing what they do best....The US system on the whole is skewed and always has been.
