Any Techy People? (Laptops)
My very old and faithful 'k' series Advent laptop is on its last legs after many faithful years of service.
Now although I know how to use them, i'm clueless when it comes to what brands are better etc so would appreciate a little help in investing in a decent one
I'm currently looking at:
Acer V3-111P Intel Celeron Processor, 4Gb RAM, 500Gb Hard Drive, Wi-Fi, 11.6 inch, Touchscreen Laptop - Pink | kandco.com
Or
Asus X502 Intel Celeron Processor, 4Gb RAM, 500Gb Hard Drive, 15.6 inch Laptop - Pink | kandco.com
or
HP Pavilion 15-n209sa Intel Pentium Processor, 4Gb RAM, 750Gb Hard Drive, Wi-Fi, 15.6 inch Laptop - Purple | kandco.com
My favorite is the Acer But I don't want to waste money on something thats not going to last. My current one i've had for the best part of 5yrs
If anyone can shed some light I will be very greatful

Re: Any Techy People? (Laptops)
I wouldn't recommend the Acer one. Acers are not very good. I had two Acer laptops and they both broke after approx. 2yrs of using. I wasn't using it very often because i preferred my desktop mac.
I would go for the Hp. I never had one myself but a very good friend of mine works at the electronics store (pc world) and he says they are very good.
I honestly only choose apples from now on. Even though they are pretty expensive they last you ages. I had my Apple Mac computer for over 4yrs now and no issues with it at all. And I'm using it for a few hrs every day.
I hope my advice helped you. I'm not an expert in computers but I'm telling you what i know from my experience and people i know experience's.

What types of things are you planning to do with it, and what do you want? My SO works with computery type things.

Re: Any Techy People? (Laptops)
I have an Acer as well (no longer using) and it was cheap and junky. The boot up message was even misspelled. lol It didn't last long at all. I'd go HP as well. That's what I have now and I haven't had any issues.

Cheers Dave!
Your opinion has been noted, thanks for sharing.
Damn...I really liked the Acer one aswell!
I did look at a Macbook (Am an apple fan myself) but as i'm ordering out of a catalogue and paying monthly I don't have enough credit limit to afford one
Thanks for the heads up on the Acer though, shall definately do a bit more digging on this topic to see what I can find!

Re: Any Techy People? (Laptops)
Depending on the brand and series is hard to tell.....but HP is pretty consistent quality, and offers a bit more in terms of HD storage. I've had ok experiences with all three brands really, but a celeron processor in the first two? Thats the el cheapo lappy chip. HP is offering a regular intel Intel , not the budget Celeron version.
The HP looks the best of the lot. If the prices are close? It's a no brainer really. Depends on the price now..... In general a lappy should last five years. Many last longer though....the HP listed is the better machine of the three by far.

I have had lots of use from HP desktop and laptop, but my favourite is my Macbook Pro. Still going strong after 6 years of use...and i am using it now.
Think of what you want to use the lappy for before you purchase as Hekomi said, as salespeople will try and get you to upgrade and/or get a 'better' and more powerful model. Take your time, and even look on line for comparisons and different deals.

Hekomi - I have an external hardrive I use to keep all my photos etc saved on and use Spotify and Itunes for music. Other than that just internet browsing and the odd youtube videos really, nothing too stenuous. Sometimes I use it quite alot, sometimes I won't use it for a while.
Esmy - Damn! Really not what I wanted to hear! It looked so pretty! Damn me and my pink obsession!

Re: Any Techy People? (Laptops)
Flamestriker - I don't have to worry about sales people as I will be buying offline anyway. I'm not in a desperate rush so I have time to research, but I will need one fairly soon before this old one konks out completley.
Skeever - Thats VERY interesting to know about the processors, I never knew that! So Intel Pentium is better than Intel Celeron? And is Intel Core i3 better than the Pentium? Thanks for that at least that gives me something to go on
Found this online but wasn't sure how accurate it was. You can never tell as different people/places will rate things differently

Re: Any Techy People? (Laptops)
I'll get my SO to take a look later, but likely we'd suggest the HP. I actually have that laptop, and it's lasted me about three years, and hopefully a fourth. There ARE problems with it though...
It will overheat very fast. Don't use it on your bed or other places it can collect dirt. My SO has taken mine apart to vacuum up dust, etc. We also use cooling spray on it occasionally.
It randomly shuts down for no reason, we can't figure out why...
I'd suggest a Dell, but HP is good too. You just want a different cooling system. I'll ask SO.
Edit: I don't really like macs. I find they're overpriced for what they actually do, unless you need the specialty programs (graphics, music, etc.)
