Pine shelf
Hi guys,
So, my dad and I are building a shelf in my room for books and such. We are going to make it out of pine, as it is cheep and easy to work with. I am worried though, because hamsters can not have pine shaving because of their respiratory systems, will the shelf be harmful? Or is it just the dust to stay away from? My hamster will be moved out of my room while the shelf is being built, as all the sawdust flying everywhere can't be good, but after that, is it safe?
Now, I realize how stupid this post will sound if there truly is nothing to worry about, but I would rather be safe than sorry!

I don't see why it would be unsafe. I mean i don't see how it will affect them if it's not in their cage or used as a playpen/toy for them?

Re: Pine shelf
Its not a stupid question at all, the answer is that your ham should be fine A few of us even use pine shelves in cages without any trouble

Re: Pine shelf
Agreeing with everyone else here, you should be safe. It's probably good that your hammy will be out of the room while the work is going on though. Though the wood is no doubt kiln dried and most of the volatiles will have been baked out, dust isn't good for anyone and I'm sure there will be noise and upset to contend with as well
