This story reminds me of a friend of mine whose landlord used to go into her house whilst she was at work and go through her belongings. She moved out pretty sharpish as soon as she realised what was going on.

Her experience has put me off leaving my place as it's rickety and I'd like a smarter house but on the other hand my landlord here is great. I'd hate to go through upheavel of moving and end up with a psycho landlord.

Maybe you could leave a camera running to see if you can catch her? If theirs proof, maybe she can get the help she needs

Perhaps placing a noisy radio in front of the vents may put her off listening in that way. You have a right to privacy and she should not be spying on you Hope it gets sorted out.

Unfortunately Souffle I don't think it's the vents that are the problem but the whole house! I can actually hear her very clearly through the laundry room ceiling when I'm in there so it could just be thin floors. The laundry room is where the ductwork is exposed though so that may be a contributing factor. I will definitely place a radio in there!

That doesn't solve the problem of her recording my every move when I'm outside unfortunately Anyone have a Romulan cloaking device they'd let go cheap?

There. Not sure what the volume should be set to but I dug out the only radio I have that't not currently in use. It has a broken antenna but I can fix it if I need to and for now it plays really solid white noise! I placed it in the laundry room.

Anything that'll make her stop is good. Souffle's idea is great.

I fear that even if she can't hear any of our voices that she'll hear plenty of her own. It certainly seems to be getting to that point

Two words:

Bear traps.

But seriously, it's fairly clear there are MI issues at stake, but when that makes living a nightmare, as you described? No one wins by just ignoring it or carry on likes its not that big a deal. It is. And someone, along the line, will probably get hurt....whether the lady, or someone else. Whatever is required in her case, it's not part of your rental agreement to put up with such 'tactics' no matter the cause! Put up a webcam, out of sight, asap....that's proof....and change the locks and ......well, keep us posted.

I'm sorry, I know it's not nice, but I'm LOL'ing at your suggestion of bear traps!

We are going to have the locks changed, just waiting a few days because she's supposed to be going away for a bit. Going to look into security cameras too. I also stopped in at the police station to ask about my options. I don't have many if I can't prove what she's doing.

On the one hand it's annoying to not be able to talk to my roommate about the most mundane issues when he's sitting not 2 metres away from me, but on the other hand it is nice and quiet around here lately All of our discussions now take place via email!
