Hello Teddy001, That's an excellent setting you have for your daughter to learn in. Having the hammies around too is no bad thing. Animals tend to relax us. One of my cousins homeschools her 5 children and it's been a good experience for them. They are on track and doing well. I am so glad your daughter is doing so very well. You have both worked hard to achieve this. Congratulations to your daughter on passing her grade and Congratulations to you for helping her get there. YaY!!

Have you decided to keep her at home then or are you still looking to get her back into the private school? I think it is super that you are able to do this for her.

As a TA in a primary school I do often wonder about the effects of home schooling and their social skills. Do you meet up with other children who are home schooled? Does she have many friends and time meeting new children?
Please don't take offence at these questions, I think that it is great that you are taking these steps to help your daughter and really admire what you are doing, I'm just curious to how this side develops.
RedSky- For now since she's doing so well, with home based schooling, we will continue with homeschool, with an accredited homeschool program. I will give her the choice, once she in in middle school, which will be 5th or 6th grade whether she would like to attend private school. The homeschool program I chose for her, is the same as the Christian Private Schools in my area, so, transitioning her, if she no longer wants to be homeschooled, will be a smooth transition for her.
Socially, she is better off than in the school she was in. I never understood this, but in her grade, there was "no" recess. In class, the children are not allowed to speak to each other, unless, directed by the teacher. She really did not "bond" with many kids in her class, even though, her class size was 41 students, the children were sat 3-4 per table, so basically, those are the kids they had the most interaction with. There wasn't any field trips, and no afterschool athletic's or activities for the students in her grade.
I had to join an "cover school" which is basically a Christian Church, or Christian based School, in order to homeschool, in my state. The Church, has an year round schedule for activities for kids of all ages, and parents. We've met many children, of all ages, through the cover school, and have gone on half a dozen get together, with family's that are also homeschooling their children.
In addition to the Church, I joined an "homeschool" group, in my area, that also brings families and children together, with so many events, park play dates, swimming get togethers, art & music activities, group field trips, birthday parties, and so much more, that we can't possibly attend all the offerings, but have also met a great group of children and mom's of homeschoolers. My daughter has more friends, than she has Ever, in such a short amount of time. My phone rings quite often, with invites to get the kids together.
Then there's an Co-op group, that's fabulous, as well. That's more of mom's and children, in your neighborhood, that are homeschooling, mom's alternate posting events and get togethers.
The children that I have met through the networking of homeschooling groups, are very polite, and play well together. We also have an opportunity to get children that are having difficulties in the same subjects together, for a study group, which has been very helpful for my daughter, as she does not feel she's the only one, 'not getting" a particular subject, lesson.
I like to do the group lessons, with "History" and Science" I think it makes for an enjoyable learning experience, giving the kids an opportunity to discuss within a group setting, what is being taught. We have 4 children that are in the same grade as Alexis, in my area and we have preplanned group lessons, which is fun for the kids.
Alexis does not only interact with kids her age, but has the opportunity to converse with younger and older children. I think it's great that she's learning from other children, (socially) and skill communicating with adults.
The best for me, regards to homeschooling, I'm not strapped to a specific daily time schedule, meaning, there is a lot of flexibility, whether it be class time, re-reviewing time, and planning the days study lessons. In a sense, Alexis has an private tutor each day, she's in class.

Thanks, she wanted to push to do, 5-6 subjects per day, instead of 3-4, which she handled just fine.. . Otherwise, we'd most likely at 3 subjects per day, would have completed the lessons, end of June. I leave it up to my daughter, as long as she is mastering her lessons, if she wants to continue on.

Congrats! It's so great. My friend started being homeschooled in 7th grade, it seems so much less stressful(for the child, not the parents!). My little brother is graduating 3rd tomorrow. Seems like just a minute ago he graduated kindergarten!
