Default wildlife photography

im so excited for my birthday my family are all gving me some money towards a camera instead of presents ^^. i am looking to get a decent camera (probably a canon ESO 40D fps6.5) i am really into wildlife photography and am forevr faffing around with my dads SLR, unfortunately the SLR he has is quite old and quite frankly isnt up to standard lol.

anyway whilst i wait for my birthday hehe i have been taking some photo's. yesterday we cleaned out our pond, i use the term we very loosely as i didnt really do much i was just there for the photographing . but anyway we discovered that there were several newts in the pond so after they had finished faffing with the pond i set up my compact digital Sony 4.1mgapxl Vario tessar on a tripod by the pond and sat and waited for newts to surface.

i waited for about 1 hour 45 mins but throughout that time saw very little newt wise just the occasional surfacing for air. but at about 2 ish it all started to happen the newts suddenly started appearing in the mid-day heat i think they were basking(although not sure)

anyway to the point i got some good shots and here they are

the second picture shows why i really want a decent camera these were taken with an ordinary compact camera imagine what they would be like with and slr and 3 times as many megapixels

old roe buck had the largest antlers ive ever seen on a roe, i expect he was almost 10 years old reaching the end of his natural life span.

Great pics foreverhamsters. I love newts. There is something almost prehistoric about them. We enjoy taking wildlife pics too especially Pophammy. In fact next weekend is our local agricultural show and the topic for the junior section is 'a wildlife photograph' We have lots around us. We took part in the Bat Conservation Trust survey in counting our pipistrelle roost on Friday. We had 55 this year. second count in 10 days. Down from last year when we had 97 but last year was bad for bats as it was so wet. Whilst watching, a fox cub ambled into the garden and was rapidly chased by our large ginger tom cat. Good job mum was not about. Last week we were watching a mother squirrel with her young one. They went to the pond and over the bridge. The pond is covered in weed and the little one thought he could walk on it and he fell in the pond!!! It was funny but he was fine.

your in yorkshire right?
its a lovely place i was born in Wakefield and lived in barnsley for 2 years. we are up there loads as my grandparents and half the family are from Yorkshire!

wow thats alot of bat!! where abouts do they roost?

on the topic of squirrels i looked out of my bedroom window in to the garden a few days ago and couldnt believe my eyes there was a white squirrel on the cherry tree!!! my next mission is to photograph him. unfortunately after about 10 mins of watchin i decided to go get a camera and when i got back i saw his bushy white tail disappearing of up the big oak tree at the end of the garden.

i Found the otter pics! but the problem is they are too big lol, so i will crop them down and sort them out ASAP,

canon hall is one of my favorite places, i have been there easily 50-60 times i have been going there all my life. my grandmother and great grandmother used to take me every weekend when i was 2/3 . another place where i feel right at home is studley royal or something like that (the deer park) i have seen all sorts of animals in there, from foxes to weasles, stoats, all the deer, kestrels, buzzards ect it really is an awesome place. my gran sits in the cafe place and walks around while i wander of looking for stuff. everytime i go p there i come back down with my yorkshire accent Rofl " would thy like a toisted teacake?" and the good old yorkshire saying " you don't get out for nout"

almost finished sorting the mull pics. the otters are quite gd pics but the sea eagles weren't focused right only got 1 half decent pic. i dug out some exmoor pics too

i have never shown anyone any of my pics of wildlife before only a few of my better friends have really seen them. in fact only my closer friends know that i am really into wildlife. its not something i have ever really told anyone about, mainly being a boy of my age, its not really considered "cool". but i like it and tbh id much rather live with animals then some of the people at my school ^^

Hey you should be proud of your love of wildlife. I was brought up with and have maintained the fascination for wildlife all my life. I even studied Zoology at University You do what makes you happy and hang the rest of them. Be yourself and not one of the pack though that is hard when you are your age and want to be part of the crowd in many ways. The friends may not always be there but the wildlife will be if we choose to look after our world and leave a space for it.
