Its so true, not sure what part of uk you live, but at seapets (in ipswich and colchester) they have really good sized hamsters, and take so much care, ask if I had and Q's etc, whereas the ones at P@H are tiny and they dont get big (my cousins is smaller and is a year old whereas mine is 8weeks old!!)

Sorry to bring up an old(ish) thread but I found it while searching for something else and felt I should point out that displaying a live animal in a window (and in direct sunlight) is against the animal welfare act and the requirements laid out in the city & guilds pet store management qualification (now known as principles of animal management with a pet store) which at least one member of staff must have.

I find if you point this out and quote the animal welfare act and why what they are doing breaches it then they are a lot quicker to change things. It is also worth quoting such in complaints to the council as they take it a bit more seriously.

I can't believe a pet shop would do that, I wonder sometimes how they are even still running keeping in mind the state of which a lot of people on here have been saying the animals/cages are in - and now especially as they are going against the animal welfare act.

Thanks to everyone who has constructively contributed to this discussion, however it is time to lock this thread and point to the Forum Rules:

"Welfare: It should be noted that this is pet hamster forum and is primarily concerned with the care and welfare of the hamsters we share our homes with. If a member has concerns about the welfare of any animal they should report it to the appropriate authorities.

It is not appropriate to post about animal abuse or animal welfare in relation to pet shops or other situations on Hamster Central. All issues should be raised with the RSPCA, SSPCA or the appropriate organization for your own country. Concerns about animals in pet shops must be raised in the first instance with the store manager, then customer services and in the case of smaller shops the local authority which issues licenses to sell live animals. Any concerns relating to videos or articles that are found on the internet should be reported to the site owners where appropriate.

If you are unsure whether a thread will be acceptable please run it past a moderator first.
"

And finally, please keep in mind this post regarding bumping old threads, especially ones that are best to be left alone:
