Hamster at my Door.
I am a dog walker when I'm not in class, so when I got home today, there was a box taped shut with my name on it at the door. I picked it up and heard something inside.
Inside the box was a little syrian hamster, cold, and shaking. No note, no food, no water. Just her.
I got her inside as quickly as I could, and put the heating pad under the box and got food and water for her. She remained in a ball for quite some time. I was really freaked out. Once she stared moving, I started putting together a temporary home in a spare 25 gallon tank.
She has a sleep house and food and water, but I have nothing else extra to give her right here now.
I am so upset, and rattled. Any tips on what to watch for? I have never seed a hamster so freaked out. I'm scared the cold might have gotten to her.
By the way I am calling her Mowgli for now, from the Jungle Book, as he was found in a basket.
Here is what she looks like (no flash, didn't want to scare her further)

Re: Hamster at my Door.
Well at least she is with you now, and not suffering anymore.
I would leave her alone for a few days to calm down after her ordeal. A nice quite and lowlit area should be fine. She just needs to calm down right now and get settled. You should consider giving her a wheel eventually as I am sure you already know. For right now though, she is probably grateful to be in a nice warm and loving home.

I highly doubt I'll be able to keep her unfortunately. I barely have the space, but I want to keep her until I am totally sure she is okay, as the poor little thing has been through so much and my heart is just in a million pieces right now

Re: Hamster at my Door.
She is one of the most pretty things I've ever seen, and so very different from my little Boo. It's just.....so so frustrating that someone would leave her in the cold for so long

Re: Hamster at my Door.
Maybe some toilet roll tubes or boxes can be given to her, I always have things like that lying around.

She's a pretty little girl. She's so lucky that she has you to look after her. I hope that she finds a loving forever home. xxx

Re: Hamster at my Door.
I gave her some tubes, and a random box I found in my closet.
Part of me wants to keep her (naturally) so we will see how it all plays out.
Once I'm a little less shocked and overwhelmed I'll process things a little better
