Anyone here had a go?
Those dolls that are made to resemble proper babies aka reborning. Seen some on eBay/ you tube/google and the way they are painted and weighted and stuff looks amazing, wouldn't mind a go at it myself as I like that type of arty thing. Anybody here make them or had a go who can tell me if it's difficult/ time consuming/expensive? I think their perfect babies - cute and cuddly with no noise, no mess, and no expense once done!

Re: Anyone here had a go?
If i'm understanding correctly, aren't these babies supposed to mimic real babies in everyway, and so they are noisy, and if not dirty then at least wet?
Or am i thinking of something else?

Um I'm not sure, I suppose you can get ones like that if you pay a lot of money, but generally they are made with a soft squishy body and vinyl limbs, which are somehow weighted. I just think the way their painted so realistically, and their hair put in in, looks amazing. Bet it takes hours and hours to do though. EDIT I think the ones your thinking of are those really expensive ones that they sometimes give out in schools to give an idea of the work involved with looking after a real baby. They have a chip or something in them that records how long you leave them for and stuff.

Re: Anyone here had a go?
The ones Wobbles is talking about are called Reborn dolls.
You can actually get a mechanism thingy that goes inside them that makes them 'breathe' and their 'heart beat' Now that is freaky!
Most are just lifelike dolls though and they dont do anything.

Re: Anyone here had a go?
They are SOOOOOOOO freaky!! It's an incredibly expensive hobby. I once got all the stuff off ebay - even then it wasn't cheap! - and bought a DVD on how to make them. They are incredibly time consuming, because the special paints have to be dried in the oven between each layer. I found it way too difficult to do, but maybe if you can find a cheap DVD or something you could see how to do it before buying everything? I very nearly went to a weekend thing where they showed you how to make them, and you'd get to take your "baby" home. However I didn't go because they freak me out, and it was expensive.
Personally, I stick to card making, and scrapbook making and things like that!

Re: Anyone here had a go?
Had never heard of them but they seem a bit bizarre to me... And time consuming and costly.
And did I mention bizarre?
This one looks realistic in a really wrong way in this pic... WARNING - It is potentially mildly disturbing. Picture.

Re: Anyone here had a go?
Whoa just looked at the link and looks so much like a real baby! I didn't even know you could make these! If I made one it would end up horrid lol. Honestly I don't really get it, but if it's something you want to do and are able to then go for it

Re: Anyone here had a go?
The first time I ever saw them, I thought people were selling actual babies on Ebay!
