Re: Thank you and goodbye.
I think we should all remember that because of Smoky's health at the moment, Hotch is probably much more sensitive to criticism than she would usually be.

Before people had no idea what the comment was, once they found out they could understand it. Like said above Hotch is probably more sensitive. Yes it may be her profile but we have to see it too and those who are commenting have children and don't want them exposed to this kind of imagery.

I'd not be allowed a pic of a naked man or something (not that I'd want one...). Why should someone else be allowed a pic of someone pointing a gun at the camera?
The rules are clear that sigs can't have innappropriate content and if you ask me that should probably be changed to apply to avatars too (which I can't find any rules for...) in which case there're definetly arguments against it.
Lougarry - Yeah its bad timing, but its also bad timing with the shootings in America.
My view is that it should've been raised as an issue sooner - and that Hotch shouldn't have turned it into a public debate. I really can't see why changing to a different pic of the same person would be such a problem?
Then it doesn't offend anyone, doesn't upset anyone and keeps the forum as friendly as we all want it.
No-one has turned on Hotch. We've just raised our concerns about the pic since Hotch decided to turn it into such a public spectacle.

Re: Thank you and goodbye.
Maybe this thread could be closed now, and Hotch left to decide what to do in regards to staying or going. Or this is going to turn into a bit of a bun fight...

Before it gets closed I want to know from the mods - Are innappropriate or upsetting avatars allowed?
That'd give us the answer to if the pic is ok or not really. In my view if its upsetting people it should be changed. Mine is a hamster and I'd still change it if it was upsetting someone.

Re: Thank you and goodbye.
I've got children and they see images of guns everywhere all the time, so I don't really see the problem. I agree this thread should be closed as people either think the image is offensive or they don't - not sure the debate is achieving much.

Re: Thank you and goodbye.
Personally, I live in the U.S. and have family in Colorado, and the Hotch avatar does not offend me.
I have never seen CM, but knew the pic must be from a t.v. show, and there's all kinds of stuff on t.v., including violent cartoons. Oh, and I just looked it up, and the Hotch character is with a law enforcement agency, so he's out protecting people and solving crimes. Plus, our Hotch had this avatar LONG before some nutcase went... nuts.
What's next; would people want a person with a Batman user pic to take it down? Hamster people, let's stick together!

Re: Thank you and goodbye.
I'm not from America, but it did bug me a bit. Guns aren't nice and honestly? I don't really want to see someone pointing one at the screen when I'm using a hamster forum. Its just not something I see as particuarly nice or inkeeping with the spirit of the forum.
For me its not related to the shooting - Its that guns are not nice, are not pleasant and I'd prefer someone didn't have a profile pic of one being pointed at the camera on a family friendly forum.
This is getting rediculous though and I hope Hotch and the mods can sort it like grown ups. Ideally the pic'd just be changed and we'd not have needed the debate.

I don't want you to leave, Hotch, but I can see Souffle's point about the pic, especially after recent happenings in the US.

Re: Thank you and goodbye.
Thank you Hotch - I look forward to seeing your new Hotch pic I have now been introduced to the program and maybe I should watch a bit.
To answer your question - inappropriate or upsetting avatars are not allowed kyrilliondaemon - I will ask admin to amend the rules to include this.
This thread is closed now.
