Re: No idea what to do now ...
Hi all. Thanks for replies. I spoke to the receptionists at the surgery who confirmed they'd received the faxes, and so the GP is talking nonsense! Going to speak to the psychiatrist tomorrow and get him to call the GP. The reason I have to see female doctors is because I used to live with someone who was a GP and he abused me and my siblings for 12 long years, and so I can't deal with seeing any male GP now ... I live in a hostel so the staff will also chase it up tomorrow ....

That's good news Pinkneon,
Lets hope after the Psychiatrist has spoken to the G.P she will write & sign the prescriptions.
I am so very sorry about the abuse. Words are not enough are they.

Re: No idea what to do now ...
That is appalling. Why your doctor wont just prescribe your meds I don't know. If you have been on them long term then she must know you need them. Also, if they now about your past and why you only want to see a female doctor but she is stopping you, then that is just disgusting. I really hope it gets sorted soon.
At my surgery we have to see our doctor or we can't get an appointment. They won't even let us see any other doctor if your one isn't in! I had to wait 3 weeks before I could get an appointment. It disgraceful. The council are building a new surgery just down the road from me so as soon as it is completed I will be registering there!

Re: No idea what to do now ...
Urgh, that reminds me I have to register with a new doctor. And then I'll have to explain all my issues again so they'll keep prescribing me meds. Not looking forward to it.
*offers hugs* doctors can suck, to be honest. I hope you get it sorted out, although I don't really have any advice.

Just a reminder people that this is a public forum and it is safest not to give out too much personal information please. It is not hard to identify people really online and best to keep medical details and complaints about particular services private.

Re: No idea what to do now ...
Well we spoke to GP surgery today, and guess what?! They still haven't sorted it!! Apparently they spoke to the psychiatrist who said he's now incharge of prescribing it, but after speaking to him, he said the GP is incharge of prescribing it ... Frankly I don't care WHO prescribes it as long as someone does!

Re: No idea what to do now ...
Looks like I'm going to have to change my GP ... She's finally prescribed the medication but in tablet form instead of liquid like I usually have as she's refusing to prescribe the liquid. I've been told to either hold off til Monday when someone can try to talk to her again or to crush the tablets which the staff in my hostel are telling me I can't crush them ... I'm so annoyed right now ... On the plus side Belle is giving me more snuggles

Re: No idea what to do now ...
Liquid forms of medication are often very much more expensive than the tablet equivalent so most doctors prefer not to prescribe them unless you really can't swallow a tablet. In fact, like many GPs she might be using Scripswitch, a computer programme that will automatically recommend cost effective alternatives. Working in the NHS and knowing how tight money is, I have a lot of sympathy with this. On the other hand, crushing tablets often isn't advisable as they may be coated to ensure absorption doesn't occur too quickly.
I think I would probably try to find a different GP who's willing to spend time explaining the reasons behind their prescribing choices rather than expecting you to take everything on trust. My GP always goes through the entry in the British National Formulary with me whenever he prescribes something - but that might be because he knows what I do for a living! It certainly improves compliance and reduces wastage.
